Default Rocker cover gasket question before i decide...

I run my finger just below the rocker cover and just above the spark plugs and i gather some fresh oil. Not a hell of a lot but it's still a considerable amount. Could this be a leak from the rocker cover gasket? Best to get some feedback before i start taking it apart, i know its not the hardest of gaskets to replace but better to not waist my time if it's not that...

It is really the only place it would be leaking from as far as I can see.

When looking at the gasket does it look worn or out of its place it should be a snug fit. Also does the other side do the same then i pretty much reackon its ya rocker cover gasket. Not hard to do yourself but for what it costs about $150 i would save myself the agrovation and the sore back and get your mechanic to do it.

Is it possible to see the gasket without the cover being off? I'll give it a clean with some degreaser and have a look tomorrow, but as accentstencil said i can't really think of another place it would be coming from either.

    Default yep

Yes you can see it without taking the covers off it will be very noticable but if it looks nice and snug might just need tightening a bit not to tight though.

$150? From where? They cost about $30 and take no more than half an hour to change.

Well that would depend on what gaskets you buy aaron it will be cheaper to do it yourself but i can guarantee you for some one thats never done it before you wont get it done in a half hour $150 was to get a mechanic to do it.

150$ is a joke to replace them...i think you've been ripped off if you paid that.

its not rocket science to replace a rocker cover gasket. can be done in half hour easy.

Yep you can get cheap and nasty gaskets for that price depends on how soon your looking at doing them again.

Well yeh, what started off as i bit of advise turned into you making a dumb ars remark about it not being rocket science i.e. meaning it was not hard to do, i never said it was hard to do i just said for some one who has not done it before it would take more than a half hour. You dont know what issues he is going to run into when he pulls the covers off even if the gasket is not baked on i still stand by what i said and you can take from that what you like. I have also checked my invoice and for a good set of gaskets exspect to pay $40-$50 and total bill was $130 so i was $20 off dont know how much things cost in your state may be cheaper and i dont really care if you think i got ripped off.

On 5ltrs the drivers side rear bolt is a frikkin pig to get to.....

And I wouldn't even bother with shitty cork gaskets - go the rubber ones, the last ones I bought were $25.00ea plus the headf**k factor.

    Maybe a crapload easier on the 6's - I wouldn't know cos I haven't done them before :-)
