    Default VX SS fuel consumption

Since I bought my stock ss its used more fuel than it should (20L/100KM). I then had a small 217/217 cam kit installed, OTRCAI, Mafless tune, pacemaker tri ys and 2.5" twin system with
100cpsi high flow cats, changed lifters, 25% ud balancer, new plugs and leads and changed all 02 sensors + changed fuel filter etc. It has 265 RWKW now. Fuel usage has not changed with the mods and remains the same as when it was stock. I believe it should use around 15L/100KM on average. Any one know what else I could check/change as to why it sucks so much fuel, even if i baby it around (which is hard to do). Car has 72,000KM only....
    Cheers

How are you checking the fuel consumption, filling it full, resetting the trip computer and then when you fill it again full, note down the kms travelled?
Also what type of driving do you do.

On a stock manual with all city driving (20-30 mins max) I get about 17-18L/100kms as comparison

I have had my VX SS from new, completely stock standard, around town I would estimate it gets around the mid teens never really accurately checked it,
but have checked it on a few long highway trips (500 to 600km) and it is always around high 9's to 10 litres per 100 km on the highway. Car has about 73,000km on the clock, it is an auto.

Thanks for the replies. Filling from almost empty , takes 70 litres, so guage is ok. Do mainly suburbs driving , 60 to 80 kms per hr. and been driving fairly sedately most of the time. Its an auto.

you did all that work and you drive it sedately? i think the problem lies in the having to much fun after the mods you have done..... thats where my fuel consumption problem lies anyway

Driving that way only to find out what the actual consumption is with normal use to see if there is a problem. Of coarse I have given it some WOT (crazy not to).

    Seems way too high mate.

Check with your tuner as to his thoughts. Might also pay you to check your O2 sensors as a starting point as if they are old/faulty they can affect fuel usage.

For what it is worth this is the Fuel sticker off my VX SS when I bought it new. I realise the figures were done in a controlled environment but might give you an idea of the official figure that was quoted when new. I think it is supposed to be a combined figure for metro and highway, not really sure how they proportioned the figures though.

There lies your problem. Your just doing short trips and the car has only just warmed up before you switch it off again.

Dont think you would save much money with a 4cyl runabout. If its a 15min drive your probs only doing 30k round trip for the day. Thats still only 6L per day or $9 in premium fuel. Even if your halved your fuel bill with a shitbox you're barely saving enough to cover rego for the year. I say keep driving your beast and waste as much fuel as possible before the Greenies make it a Jailable offence
