Post Trouble with automatic transmission am i up for a gearbox?

    Hi guys,
I am having trouble with what i believe to be the gearbox although im not sure
Could be the shaft but honestly im just taking a stab.

My problem is when i accelerate in the autotransmissions 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear it
Struggles to move especially 1st in the mornings it wont even move for about first
    4 Seconds of acceleration.

Also when slightly heavily accelarating on highways to overtake etc it struggles
To give that push and its like the gearbox is getting stuck.

Anyone who has had these problems or know what they are and how to rectify them
    Please post.

    Thanks guys.

Ok took it to get serviced today the mechanic called me an hour later explaining to me how he cant do it due to the gearbo going and slipping. I asked if he could just service it for me and how long did he think i would get out of it. He said no he
wont do it as it would shock the system and could cause the transmission to go quicker. We all know thats a possibility the
old weakest link theory (if you fix a few things everything else shits itself). I then asked how much for a reco tranny fitted or reco mine. He said $1550.00 done same day. Not that i could afford it anyway i went and picked up the car but id like to know what you all think of that price? I respect the man for calling me & saying its not worth the $100.00 to service but ouch $1550.00 just out of curiosity as I cant afford a gearbox at the moment anyway I rang about six places wreckers tranny specialists not one quoted me over $1000.00 cheapest was $550.00 so opinions would be greatly appreciated whats the going rate? Btw I didnt ring Holden but I am assuming they would be between $1500-$2500 so I didnt bother.

Could be a good idea to get reco. My VR tranny screwed up a few years ago. Took it in for a full service at a transmission shop, and it has never shifted the same since. Shame

I have a VT auto trans sitting here if you want it. Going cheap... $100?
Dont know if its what you want, but i did a manual conversion on my vt, and i still have the old auto lying around. So if you're close by, maybe its what you want.

Depending on how long your going to keep your car is to wich road you can take.
A few year's ago to get a reco box was a sh!tload of money, Since then, Some compaany have brought out a cheaper rebuild kit so rebuild boxe's have dropped in price
But i agree with what your tran's mecanic was talking about, It's sometime's a bad idea to service a box when there getting tired, Most of the time they will die within a week of getting the service.
If you're planning to keep the car for a few year's to come it may be best to just keep going as long as you can on the box you have and save up for a rebuild.
Or of corse you can go second hand, But you may be in the same situation a year later so...Its a chance...

Just go down to supercheap and get some of that lucas trans fix stuff, Its like $15 and may help keep you going for a bit longer...
I was in the same situation as you with my old VP, My transmittion guy told me to go get that lucas stuff and put that in, He said it will keep you going till u can afford a new one...And it did...It made everything work just that little bit better, Kept me going for a further year till i decided on a reco box..Coz they got cheaper...Then sold the car
Just an idea for you...It may help you...
As far as the price for a reco goes, I think that sound's reasonable.
