Hey all
I apparently have a crack in my exhaust system, ive been told this the last couple of times ive had my car serviced and ive just got some extra cash so i thought i might fix this now. At the moment im looking at a 2.5" Redback exhaust, ive only contact one place so far and it was $420 fitted (is this an ok price?). But as ive been reading up ive been hearing about things like removing the rear muffler or getting straight through pipes instead for better sound...What does that mean? Does the above redback system come with the rear muffler? should i ask to leave it out?
I'm also looking at the lukey 2.5" but i have got any prices yet, is there much difference between the two?
Thanks for any help!
P.S VTII V6 Ecotec
$420 seems a bit steap, i paid about $330 fitted and that was nearly two years ago. I don't have a rear muffler. It's loud as **ck! My personal opinion would be to go with the Redback over Lukey. That's from expereince of having a Redback system and it hasn't let me down :-)
Your thread is probably V6 exhaust thread no. 999.
Use the search function, i'll eat my hat if this info isn't available within this site or others.

If you have some basic mechanical skills you should be able to install it yourself. If you wanna give it a go then I'd contact forum member Not_An_Abba_Fan and get a quote for an exaust from him.
Otheriwse if you want it installed $420 sounds fairly reasonable, I think mine was about $480 but I had a tip put on. It was a 2.5" Redback btw.
Your options really are either a 2.5" or 2.25", with or without a resonator, which is that rear muffler part you mentioned. It just depends on what you like the sound of. The 2.5" will be a little louder, and without a resi it will drone a little more. I'd probably go Lukey over Redback. Search the forums and just read some of the many threads on this topic, and if you have mates with similar exhausts fitted to their cars go for a drive with them.
I'm pretty sure youtube has about 4 trillion videos of systems on ecotecs, all types so have a listen there and get an idea
thanks, only real thing im not sure about is to go with a resonator or not, is it that much louder without one?
Not a whole lot, just a bit deeper and a bit less drone with a resi I thinkthanks, only real thing im not sure about is to go with a resonator or not, is it that much louder without one?
what system is needed for it to crackle
probably the best ecotec ive heard

I can do the Manta 2 1/2" cat back with resonator for $280 shipped to your door. Nice and deep, no drone. Easy to fit as well.

....Why not?but i cant install it myself
Yes, it will fit in your boot.
It's easy enough to install, 2 bolts, 2 clamps and 4 rubbers.
The old one doesn't even have to be separated for removal, just undo the cat bolts, take the rear rubbers and the rubber closest to the tail shaft off then while holding the system up, take the remaining rubber off and let it fall on the ground.
The system is universal for the VT-VY sedan wagon and ute. It comes in 3 pieces, a connecting pipe off the cat, the front muffler and the rear resonator. The connecting pipe is made longer to fit the ute, it just needs trimming to suit the sedan.
An exhaust place should take about 20 minutes to fit it. I did one one on the weekend on a VX sedan, using axle stands, it took me all of 40 minutes.
Just got mine done,Redback-2.5" cat back with dbl barrel chrome tip $330.Sounds good, very happy :-)

It's a deep note that isn't too loud, but sounds good when you get into it. Not as raspy as Lukey or Redback.
there is a dope looking and sounding twin tip redback on youtube, they are 215 or something, but if you got something better, i might go your way
I have been selling and fitting Manta since they came into existence and in the last few years have been way ahead of the rest in terms of sound and fitment.
Lukey 2.5" Catback system from Super Cheap Auto for around about $180. Approx fitting time, 30mins. Sounds a treat too, only decent system I have heard![]()
