Default Grinding Noise Comming from L/H Rear Brakes

I have a grinding noise comming from the L/H side rear brake on my VX. Its not the brake pads as there near new, it sounds like the hand brake, the hand brake has not been very good ever since i got the car (think its been drifted) and you have to reef up the brake to get it to hold the car on a hill (6spd manul). As a result it also seems like its pulling to the left which is think is from this issue... Is it within the hand brake pads ? if so what can i do... If not what else can it be ?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Check that there isn't a stone or debris stuck in that piece of metal that surrounds the brakes, otherwise maybe clean the brakes with some brake cleaner etc.

If you pull off the handbrake cover, you should be able to adjust it from there so that you only have to lift it a little to hold the car (not 100%, never had to do it to our VX)

i have had this problem before, on my old pads/rotors. there was a small stone in there, also causing un-even wear on the pads and rotor.

The effort and time required to post the question and wait for answers, it would be easier to just pull the wheel off and have a look and see what the problem is.

Sounds like it is the handbrake shoes though, but removing the wheel, the caliper and the rotor will tell you for certain.

The pulling left would most likely be caused by either the tyres or the wheel alignment.
