Changine engine trans won't line up
Hey guys I'm putting in my new ecotec and the old one came out fine but the trans wasn't held up when I was taking the old one out now I'v got the new one in and can't seem to get the trans to line up with the engine no matter how much I lift the engine or jack the trans up or down any help would be great
carefully would be my advice, i have seen a few DIYers crush their trans pump when fitting to the engine. but that keeps the transmission mob down the road in business I guess
How many k's on the old engine? I have never swapped an engine out yet but I think I will need to soon. I'm thinking about starting to search for my new one...

You don't say whether the box dropped on the floor, or hung from the engine so first up check the the box for damage.
Is it manual or auto? Did the new engine have the same trans as yours?
Both these questions can make a lot of difference in regards to the answers you get.
I don't know if it applies today but in yesteryear some engines had a bush in the rear of the crank and when changing from auto to manual or vysa versa, the bush had to be removed but I can't remember which box had the larger shaft, auto or manual.
It was on the floor but theres no damage thank god its a auto and yep same engine. its like the bottom needs to swing in the top bolts on the bell housing go in fine but down the bottom there like a 10mm gap.

Check the rear of the crank just the same to make sure the gearbox shaft is the same diameter as the hole in the crank.Originally Posted by vtv6
If you have the torque convertor bolted to the engine flex plate, remove the torque convertor and slip it on the box, then the most you have to do is line the shaft to the crank because to me it sounds like the box is not lining up with the torque convertor. You should still be able to do up the bolts where the convertor bolts to the flex plate by turning the engine by hand to get at each bolt.
Also if you have the gearbox still mounted at the rear that could be causing you problems with alignment.

make sure you line the notches up on torque convertor / with pump on gearbox otherwise youll smash it. i had a similar issue to you last time i did my auto problem was the input shaft wasnt correctly centered in the crank
yea I'm putting in a stall converter and I slipped it on the trans first I'll take the mounts for the trans off and give that a go tomorrow going to be to drunk today I would say to get under a car lol thanks guys and merry christmas
always fit torque converter to trans first, rotate converter as you push on there are two spots where it will push in further

This is why I reckon it's easier to remove the engine and gearbox/tranny in one piece.

All good guys turned out the Stally wasn't on all the way #-o thanks lout saved me a lot of banging doors around the house
yea mate going sweet just need to get some electrical wiring down by someone but no this time of year is working lol!!!
