    Default Memcal wrong size?

    Hi everyone.

    I have a 1998 Holden Commodore Berlina VT V6.

I recently ordered a Memcal from the eBay seller Blackstar5000, and after opening the cover plate on the ecu, I found that the factory Memcal (the one already in the car) is half the size of the one he sent me.

Did I get the wrong one or did I select the wrong option.

I haven't emailed him yet, but just looking for some other people's experiences.

    Thanks, Tom.

(I'll upload pictures when I get to the computer)

Should of searched ebay memcals and saved your self the heart ache. Not worth it at all. Just throw it in the bin and be done with it.

Yeah thought so, thankfully I didn't pay for it (Work bonus). Should have gone through mace.

Sounds like you ended up with a buick style memcal instead of an ecotec one.
    What exactly did you order?
Usually good people ask for exact month and year of manufacture as some models changed by the month.

Funny thing is, I quoted the exact build date off the build plate under the bonnet haha.

Are Buick ones known to be smaller than the ecotec ones?

The one on the left = the Memcal in the car.

The one on the right = eBay Memcal.

I remember reading a thread here once about the seller Blackstar5000, it wasn't very complimentary if I recall correctly. Try searching for it.

Ive compared quite a few of these so-called "tunes" from ebay or where ever, to the tunes Ive done myself, and most are just a rip off with hardly any changes made at all, maybe just a slight ignition timing advance if you are lucky, so dont waste your money on them. Theres a few people on here who will sell you a decent tune. I used to sell a few VR/VS tunes, but I dont really bother doing them now as I cant get any spare memcals where I live, theres no wreckers here any more. Anyway, Its worth learning to do them yourself. Delcowizzid, who is a wizzid with the delco ECU, helped me get started with tuning my VS a couple of years back, it doesnt take long to get the hang of what has to be done. I think these guys on ebay just guess the settings etc most of the time..

AFIK the one on the left is sequential injection ecotec and sequential injection 5L VSIII and on, one on the right is as found in previous models VN_VR V6 and VN-VS 5L.

    Cheers for that.

I think I'll just chuck it out and order a tune through mace, which is what I should have done in the first place
