Hey just a quick post hopefully someone can help as I'm about to return home across the Nullarbor in the heat.
I have a 2000 Calais which has electronic air con controls and find when speed exceeds 100km/h (or when accelerating up a hill at or over this speed) the air will start coming out of the front demister vents instead of the face vents. I have to drop speeds to under 100ish to get the air to start coming out the face vents again.
It still shows face vent on the display, changing the vent doesn't help.
Is there anything I can check? Other than this the air con is working fine.
Start by checking the thin vacuum hose that should be connected at the rear of the intake manifold, see that is connected and is a good fit, also check the one way valve that is on the hose.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
if its not the little vacuum hose on the manifold of the one way valve it'll be your actuator behind your center console. here is a how to
how to replace air con actuator
If in doubt......FLOOR IT!!!
can anyone please tell me how to start a new thread
thanks guys will check out tomorrow and let you know how i get on.
cheers
Brad.
thanks having trouble with 2000 vt sedan changed and cleaned all usual suspects starting to think computer? Running out of ideas real quick what a xmas
I have checked the vacuum line from the manifold inlet and its connected fine, i can see the valve but don't know how to test it.
Assuming this was OK (which I think it is as the system operates most of the time) I started taking apart the actuator as suggested above. I noticed quite a big hole in the front left part of the cover where the actuator is inside of (and the fan I assume) - Havent opened it yet but am about it.
Would this be causing the problems?
I also noticed whilst down there that some air is coming out of the footwell vent when the air is directed to face, so it isnt quite working correctly as I thought. (this is when parked)
This guy (vt commodore air con) seems to have the exact same problem as me and he replaced the actuator, so I will order one of these ASAP.
Do you think its worth getting the cover replaced or just patch it up or leave it?
Thanks for your help
Just an update got my actuator solenoid bank today and it has fixed the issue thanks guys.
I had the fan/blower occasionally stop on high speed but have replaced the relay under the dash and that's fixed that.
One last prob is the passenger vent is blowing warm/ambient temp air out quite fast, the drivers side is Woking fine. When I switch to foot both sides open and expel cool air, so not sure what's going on there, I don't think it's the actuator. Might just tape it up as a bodge job
Holden sure build crap air con systems.
