My Red VX has got really bad fading on the rear quarter panels, up along the C pillar i believe its called, and on the back drivers side door mainly. Ive had the car for 2 years, and it needed a good cut and polish when i got it.
I bought Mcguiars Colour restorer the week after i got the car, now 2 years later i finally gave it a go lol, its the first time ive tried polishing a car, dont think i went to bad, only thing is some of it isnt that shiny. Im not sure whether its because the car was getting so badly faded or if i didnt take the stuff of in the right amount of time after applying it. Any advice would be great.
go get it professionaly buffed, if the paint doesnt have any clear coat peeling or crows feet it should come up. my VL had no shine what so ever, now its close to glass. i polished and waxed it after aswell. no use using hand products, a buff will make the biggest difference
I wash, dry, cut and polish blemishes and road grime then wipe over, touch up chips with paint pen then go a wax and a buff. Comes up like glass. If I was you get a cheap buffer from supercheap think they like $25 at the moment or if you have the cash the angle grinder style one works a treat. Search around the net there will be great tips to bring back your colour and shine.
So a cut and polish isnt supposed to look shiny, thats what the wax and buff is for? i just thought polish meant shine lol.
Ive heard that using an electric buffer can be dangerous if your not careful, it can grip in and gouge the paint work.
Cut and polish is what it's name is. Cuts back dirt, grime, metallic scratches, blemishes And dullness. and polishes to a shine. I would go a full cut and polish and a good buff, and see how you can bring it up by hand. Wipe off then a wax. you can get clay bar to clean up the paint too. I have the angle grinder looking buffer and works a treat. Doesn't gouge paint as the pad wrapped around the sides. But beware if your arial and side Indecators and plasic moulding on back window lol I Learnt the hard way. do these areas with care and you will be right. I do wax for the hard shell and shine as it lasts ages and keeps the car cleaner IMO . I got my local Holden parts dealer to make me up a pot of touch up paint for stone chips. Pretty new to it all but I seem to have it going pretty good the way I'm doing it. Car now glows when the sun hits it and reflects everything.![]()
ew, dont use cut and polish wtf?
im a detailer, go to a pro, if your that keen to do it yourself, use a cut, swirl remover, then wax, you need to get heat into the paint so you will need a proper buffer, not one of those vibrating things, see a pro, a cut and shine should be 100 300+for paint correction
