Cool Your knowledge needed - Engine noise issue

    Hey fellas,

I just did a cruise in my vt from sydney to cairns in 2.2 days, around 2,445 km.

Overworked her but magically i got to cairns and arrived at the familys holiday camp only to see water pissing out of the bay.. you might have guessed water pump? your right but i replaced it
    .

Now after putting the belt back on, my mechanic mate (whos jet down south) and myself could hear a grinding scraping sound, high pitch ' EeeR ...... EeeR....... EeeR....'
Not constantly. My mate started putting screw drivers to his ear and said it was the air con air compressor.

So i drove her around and the sound went away but now its random, goes away while im putting the accelerator down ish.

Anyway i dont use the aircon, im guessing its acting as a fly wheel for the belt.. is there anyway i can remove it? get a smaller belt or maybe you guys might know a way to bypass it? maybe its easy to pull apart. Any help much appreciated.

thanks fellas, Hope you all get your piss on for NY! Bj

You can get a non air con belt, I believe.

Yes you can get a non A/C belt, but you need to remove the idler pulley between the compressor and harmonic balancer. Where in Sydney are you, I have a belt that is of no use to me any more, or are you still away.

hmmm wonder if your idler pulley is the problem. Had a similar problem with my vx every time i put my foot on the gas the car would make a loud whistling sound, after checking the forums here found the fault to be with my A/C idler pulley, swapped it out no more noise. I should add $50 for the idler pulley (from Holden nz price) and another $50 for the idler support carrier (i broke the hub that the idler was on but that was an easy swap as well).
