    Default Ls1 reading codes

Ls1 cars are OBD1.5, meaning they have OBD2 connectors but give codes in OBD1 and data in OBD2 format. So if you connect a usb scanner (which is OBD2) it will only give data readings such as rpm, temperature, etc. But to check engine codes you have to connect an OBD1 cable that has a 16 pin head so it will fit in the OBD2 plug in the car. In the market there are elm327 OBD2 usb scanners readily and cheaply available, they will not give any codes but will just give data. In OBD 1.5 you cannot jump pins 5 and 6 to get codes manually, you need to plug in an OBD1 cable. OBD 1.5 was the in-between of OBD1 and OBD2. That makes total sense because when the Ls1 first came out in the 99 corvette OBD2 was new technology and car makes were just starting to put it in their cars and it was a transition stage of OBD1 to OBD2 thus OBD1.5.

Hello I finally got codes off my wh caprice ls1. I got P0327, P0332, P0523, P1626. These are all current, pending, and stored codes. I used elmscan5 which is just another elm327 product. Well any 15 dollar chinese cheap elm327 will work. Something like this:
    V1.4 ELM327 OBD2 OBDII CAN-BUS Diagnostic Scanner USB | eBay
I prefer the usb one but you can buy bluetooth one and connect it to your iphone.
Next you need to have proscan 5.9 software.
Connect the cable to your Computer.
Then connect it to your car/LS1.
Start the car and let the engine light come on.
In proscan 5.9 (note 5.7 version will not work) go to file then communication settings and set to automatic detect.
    Then click connect.
Once connected if you go to DTC menu it will show no codes. This is because aussie v8 do not use standard obd2 code retrieval.
So go to the elm menu (it is a white box with elm written on it, next to the log button)
Over here you can enter codes
to check if its working enter (03) without brackets and click send, it should say no data.
Next enter code (ATSH 6c 10 f1) without the brackets. Just copy/paste and click send
    It should say OK.
Next enter (19 D2 ff 00) without brackets.
BINGO! It should state all the codes. They are not in normal format but the code is in between.
First thing write them all down on paper or word.
So for me I got these:
    6cf1105903273f25
    6cf1105903323ff0
    6cf110590523ff38
    6cf1105916261931
    6cf110590000ff10

The code is in between so for the first one 6cf1105903273f25 the code is 6cf11059 "0327" 3f25 or P0327. You get the idea write. Maybe you will get different format but the code will be inside it! This will work on all Aussie LS1s.

    Proscan 5.9.zip
(Sorry with my first post I was totally wrong, Aussie LS1 are indeed OBD2 but with different code retrieval system)

Note: the code is write after 59 in the whole code. So for example in 6cf110590523ff38 it is after 59 so 0523 or P0523

Thanks very much for the information, it sounds a little complicated but I'm sure I can manage it. I might just get the whole bluetooth kit from Proscan since I don't have a laptop. At $189 it's about what I paid for the Memoscan scan tool I bought a few years ago, it reads live data but no codes. Damn Holden making things difficult again.

The last code I got P000 (6cf110590000ff10) which means no more stored codes.

Well any elm327 based scanner will do. Im not sure if its elm327based. I recommend this
ELMScan 5 Universal OBD II Scan Tool w/ Free Software | eBay
it has paid software included and you can data log.

This worked a treat for me, I already had a ELM327 Bluetooth adapter which I use on my Volvo, just needed software that would read Holden LS1 codes. I was able to confirm that my second oil pressure sender has died!

I finally got my ELM327 and bought ProScan 5.9, I was able to read the trouble codes but not able to clear stored trouble codes and pending trouble codes. I had not permanent trouble codes so I don't know if they can be cleared. I am happy to be able to access the codes though.
Can anyone tell me the difference between stored and pending codes.
