Asking all this for my brother , 6.0ltr into a vt ss (i know motor has to be out of the first VZ model)
But the main thing im wondering is, do the 6.0ltr have the nasty Ls1 piston slap?
i was thinking of getting a wreck from pickles auctions for afew grand ($2000-$5000) and doing the engine swap that way.
As the motor i have in the vt ATM the lifters are screwed and the piston slap is really annoying.
Real cars don't power the front wheels, they lift them
no piston slap to my knowledge with LS2/L98 VZ but issues seem to arise with the L77 motor in VE I think
I think the problem is "YOUR BROTHER" put a second hand motor in, you dont know how many K's its done or whether the previous owner hammered it.
Pickles is the way to go got my 2001 VX commodore for $1600 with a small dent in the side guard and passed RWC first go didnt do nothing to it 250,000 kms though but still a good price seeming they go for 5-8k street value
good luck getting a 6ltr vz for 2-5k at the auctions.. they fetch 5-7k depending on damage..
ls1's with over 200,000 still fetch 2-3k

You put a second hand motor in if you're gonna piss it off. If its a car you're keeping strip it down and replace anything thats needs to be and use anything thats still good. Obviously you will need to give it to an engine builder but if you know what your doing you can either put it together yourself or get him to put the short block together and you the rest yourself. All depending on how much you can do yourself.
