Hey, am going to be buying a set of new VE SSV wheels in 19's in 2-3 weeks, the 2 tyres in the title are a couple of options i have if i buy my wheels off ebay, both in 245/35/19, i know nothing about tyres and it will be the first set of wheels/tyres i have bought so which would you recommend please? another option was also Neuoton NT500, never heard of them.
thanks
Theyre all probably about the same level.
Apparently the Achilles are usually old moulds from Bridgestone etc. Havnt used them though.
The neuton nt5000s seem to grip ok, but are quite noisy.
I had some much older kuhmo estcas. They were quite quiet on the road but didn't have great grip.
Shop around for tyres. Prices vary by alot. If you could stretch to a Bridgestone potenza, good year eagle f1, gt radial hyp you would probably be thankful.
Seriously dude, are you going to pay over $300 a tyre from bob Jane for a daily driver VX? The Chinese equivalent like archilles, ground force etc are more than adequate for your needs. Sure they definitely not Pirelli or Michelin and the might be a little noisier but just turn up the tunes.
Even on your daily driver don't buy shit tyres. When you go round a corner they're one of the only things stopping you sliding off the road!
For around that money you should be able to get better than kuhmos though.
Don't know 19 prices but for 235/40/18
-re002 potenza $280nzd each (fitted)
-gt radial hpy $235nzd each (fitted)
-Pirelli Nero $290nzd each (fitted)
-good year eagle f1 asymmetrical $260nzd each fitted
There's nothing wrong with the Achilles ATR Sport tyres.
I paid $420 for 4 225/35/20, a little while back, (pickup) cheap as chips and good in the wet (and dry).
Wouldn't break traction unless you wanted it too - flat out hooking around a corner.
To say all cheaper tyres are shit, is a piss weak stereotype.
Achille's ATR's are fine. i've got them on my car (245/35/19). they grip fine & handle fine around corners. I am sure that there are a lot of other good tyre brands etc but for $150 per tyre you can't go wrong. If you can afford pirelli's etc then you wouldn't be asking us what we thought about the cheaper brands.
As far as cheaper brand tyres go the achille's are quite good. i've been using them for the past 3 - 4 years.
ok thanks guys, good advice i probably could afford the higher end tyres but i think at the moment i'd rather save the extra cash for lowering/removing spoiler, new exhaust etc...
I got Kumho KU31's of ebay for 165 each for my 19's. I found them a pretty good tyre. Heaps more grip and quieter than the cheapies they replaced and I've done nearly 20k on them so far.
Don't know if the KU19 are better or worse than the KU31 though
Ok, so i can either get the ATR Sports at $510 delivered or i have another option now, 245/35R19 Nexen N3000 at $630 delivered, how much better are the nexens? anyone had experience with them, would you say its worth the extra $120? Both are linked below,
cheers

Go ATR Sports, I have the same on my wagon with some ve clubsport rims, they are as good as anything else in the dry, not so much in the wet but still great. if you have any icy driving to do i advise against as they are not very good i have been stuck and sliding a lot! mine were 600 nzd fitted. not a bad tyre at all
The ATR Sport are a good tyre for a daily, no doubt about it. I run them on my daily because they are a very hard compound, and wear well. Probably similar in grip to the KU19, I'd go the ATR Sport. KU31 would be better than both, though.

Don't cheap out on tyres. Your spoiler and exhaust can wait.
Check out Michelin Pilot Sport 3's or Falken 452's. Both in the $300 each range.
I have the ATR sports in 245/35/R19. I have no complaints for a cheap tyre they perform well in the dry and wet and road noise is minimal.
Take it easy...But do take it...
Do not argue with an IDIOT.
He will just drag you down to his level an beat you with experience.
Some people take me the wrong way, Like smacking up Marijunna.
ok, ATR sports it is
if i was to buy ve ssv's on ebay, most of them come with 245/40/19 tyres, but for a vx ive been told 245/35/19 is the best so how with the 245/40 go? would i have any issues
