Unhappy Thump when accelerating, humming when @ 60km

VX series 2, 210k, major service done last week, with a major service done early 2011

For sometime now iv had a thump noise come from mid/rear of the car when i accelerate around the corner or accelerate when over 40km, all i have to do is lightly tap the accelerator to cause the thump.

Today i got the rear x members mounts changed as it was assumed it could be a possible fix. After getting changed iv noticed a humming noise when cruising at 60km an hour and disappears when i accelerate. However the thump is still there. It also felt like it almost stalled today, but i did do a lot of driving and it was pretty hot. Dont know if that is related.

Anyway, during xmas i sort of hit a curb while trying to squeeze into a parking spot with the front left tyre, causing some gutter rash and loosing the wheel weights. Is the humming noise possibly due to the tyre, i swear i only heard it today after the mounts were changed?

Also whats this bloody clunk/thump, feels a tad sluggish too..

I googled and most people say to change diff fluid but it was done early 2011.

Any help greatly appreciated Car has sentimental value as it was given to me by my uncle who passed away. Just want it running well

Get the car on jack stands and inspect the uni-joint on the tail-shaft
grab the shaft and try rotate it (lollololo ok shutup now)
if it clunks then your uni-joint is gone.

to be 100% you can undo the tailshaft bolts and then try rotate the diff with your hand and see if that clunks (####ed diff).

The hum. Most likely that lost weight. Did it start after that incident?

Wow thanks for your help, bit stormy here at the moment so il wait to suss out the unijoint. If it is the unijoint does the whole thing need to be replaced?

id say the humming could have started after the curb crunch, but being xmas and that may not have noticed it till now

I'd be looking at the centre bearing on the tail shaft too. The rubber mount sags or splits and then the shaft thumps when you accelerate. The bearing starts making a noise too when this starts to happen.

dropped to to my mechanic, he had another look and balanced the wheels while he was at it. Said it wasnt the uni joint as it was the first thing he looked at. Cant remember if he looked at the centre bearing, but said it could possibly be suspension related as i still have stock suspension and theyre on their way out. he said worse case it could be the diff. he was busy/sick at the time so will get it looked at properly when we both have time. Still up for any suggestions tho

I reckon you have hit the nail on the head. while im at it should i replace the CV joint?, could the rear cv joints also possibly cause this thumping?
