one day after i had my air cond regassed, the compressor started making a grinding noise and spat all the gas and dye out from the compressor pulley area. prior to the regass, it had been out of gas for a few months after getting my heater core replaced. i told the auto electrician this before he regassed it, and he also had to replace the tx valve o rings because they leaked.
called the regas guy, and told him, and he said that can happen and said ill need to replace or reco the compressor. :|
im wondering if this auto electrician has played me, by not topping up the oil or something when possibly he should have knowing the situation for needing the regas in the first place. cant help but think he has. i feel a bit spiteful about it at the moment. can any tradies that do this work comment about whats happenend here. is it really one of those things that can just happen and im being paranoid, or did that mechanic stuff up and miss something pretty standard, or even worse maybee do it on purpose knowing it would screw my compressor? more money$ for him yayy! (if you get my drift).
qualified opinions would be most valued here.
i know what the average person would say. especially from the way i told the story
cheers
Refrigerant oil is mixed in with the refrigerant straight out of the bottle - you are being paranoid.
Id say it depends on what A/C regassing machine is used as to whether the compressor oil is added with the gas or added seperatly. After replacing my noisy AC compressor with a second hand unit on my VS.I went and got it regassed with new compressor oil as the "new" compressor had no oil in it at all when I got it. I watched them whilst they regassed it etc. They weighed and added the compressor oil seperatly before actually regassing the system from the regassing machine..
I would take it back and get him to fix it.
You were out of gas for a while, How do you know you didn't have a leak? The seals on the compressor didn't dry up...
I bet you didn't get a leak/pressure test done because it'd of cost you more...
Cheers

i dont think he will take any responsibility for it at all anyway.
i think the easiest thing to do is get another compressor put in and get it regassed somewhere different as i dont really have any confidence in this auto elec.
at the least i know he isnt very thorough.
and he makes me feel paranoid![]()
well i wanted him to do whatever he thought it needed to regass without it dying if possible. If he had recomended a leak tes i would have let him do it, and replacing any o rings that needed, as he did at the flywall pipes. It didnt end up leaking from an o ring anyway. It is leaking from the pulley area. The o rings are at the rear of the compressor.
your been paranoid.
you won't find any business that warrants parts they don't touch. the pressures in A/C systems are huge, and, as has been mentioned above, the seals in the compressor can dry out when the system is empty and/or not in use. when the high pressure returns to the system, the seals simply let go.
and the problem with a/c is you can't check if its going to work properly, until it's working properly, if you get the jist.
yeah, i can be a bit untrusting of mechanics due to being ripped off previously (definately, not just paranoia). i tend to agree that its probably just from age. theres no point holding a grudge or trying to find someone at fault, cos i have to pay to get it fixed either way.
even though i dont blame the guy who regassed the car, i certainly wont be going back there again or reccomending him to anyone as i am not a satisfied customer, regardless of the cause.
anyhew...... no biggie
thanks for the input everyone
Dont feel too bad, exactly the same thing happened to me too.First,he pumped R134a (for $135),lasted 2 days,,,then he re-checked the system again found no leak,he pumped some dye then re-fill the system again. This time it took 3 days, system was out of gas again. Then i realised something was wrong and didnt want to become a pain in the ass for the guy.Cause i know how difficult these A/C's can be.Close inspection reveal the whole picture..My compressor WAS leaking from the bottom,it was all green (dye)so was the half of the passenger side engine mount.
