By all means try changing the fluid but it sounds like it's too late.

If your keeping the car then rebuild it and have it done properly. You will be so happy you spent the money.
If your planning on selling it soon then just slap a used one in there and forget about it.

Yeah a little late for it haha
May need to invest in something a little stronger
Would it be worth getting this one rebuilt with high stall and trans cooler
Its done 134000 or just new one with trans cooler?

First step before you spend big money would be to change the TPS (throttle position sensor) - cheap and quick to do. Especially if you are getting harsh shifts when the box does decide to shift.
Next step would be to change the 1->2 shift solenoid in the box when you are replacing the fluid/filter. You can also check to see if you have set any error codes in the ECU which can give you a further clue on what is wrong (although intermittent problems do not always set an error code).

    Ah yes that's true.
    +1 to BlackVXGTS.

V8 gearboxes tend to do random things when the tps goes boom. More of a v6 person

It doesnt just effect V8 autos. A faulty TPS will cause the same problems with the V6 autos too. I fixed a VRV6 automatic not too long ago that had really bad shifting problems and was also slipping under hard acceleration, this was being caused by a faulty TPS as it had logged both codes 21 and 22.One new genuine holden TPS later and auto problems fixed.

If your going to keep it, spend the bit extra and get it built stronger.
