how do you program a new vt key?

just brought a new vt key from ebay and i need to know how to program it, i read another post saying u need to lock the car with the old key and unlock it with the new one but 2 reason i dont think this is right is:
1. on my old vr i remember having to leave the key running in the ingion for something like 10 mins to program it but there where move steps you had to do.
2. my old key button dont work cause the batterys dead so i have to use the key blade in the door to unlock it...

if you can help that would be great save me having to go to holden... thanks

It'll run you $70-$80 to get it done at Holden. Save yourself the hassle and just get it done there.

I just programmed a keyfob for a VX yesterday with the tech 2, it cost the guy $50 from ebay for the new 3 button keyfob. You will need to see someone (holden dealer ,auto electrician or locksmith etc) that has a tech2 scantool (or similar) to program new keyfobs. No amount of leaving the key in the ignition or whatever can program brand new keyfobs. People get confused with this because when they buy a new key from mr minit or whereever,the key is part programmed from you old key(thats why they need an old working key), then once theyve done this,you just have to use the key in the car to finish off the programming proceedure. I will program new keyfobs for anyone who is a JC member in my area for no charge, you just have to buy the new fob. I will need to take licence and rego details etc before I will do this.

To help you I brougtht a key from mr Minit and they programmed it there for me cost $100 then I brought one on ebay and programmed it first unlock with a key , put it in the ignition and let the computer set it run the car for say 20 mins and turn off the car ,press buttons and hope fully this will it unlock it, with remote and try your boot if this works your done it worked for me after using this instruction i got with the key at mr minit .

#### there are some stupid people around, Use the "Search" it has been covered over an over again,, the only way to program a key is with a tech 2 or key programmer the car on its own will NOT program the key,,,
