    Default Unscrewed Boot spoiler (problem)

Ok so i just unscrewed my spoiler to see if it has damaged the boot lid at all as i plan to remove it for good soonish, it has stained it yellow as you see in the picture below, would this be easily cleaned up? i tried some car wash soap but that done nothing so im not going to take it off and have some temporary rubber groments or w/e they are if its stained, also both of the rear/bottom screws looks like it has made a bit of a dent (could of been done up too tight?) would that be easily leveled out to normal when getting it welded up or am i better off trying to find a new boot lid without a spoiler? cheers

no mate, just got to local super cheap auto or autobahn etc etc... get 2 cloths and some car polish (cheapest is like 10$), and with your cloths use 1 to dry and 1 for the polish itself.

put about a 20c size tab of polish onto a cloth and then apply to your car working in circle motions lol and should hopefully clear it up. then use the other cloth to wipe away the polish. simple yeah?

also make sure the area is clean before you polish it. and if you get bored do ya whole car :P paint will love it. but make sure you wash and dry your before you polish the whole thing.

ok just bought some Nu finish polish in the orange bottle and it hasnt helped one bit, also i cant get the wire what was attached to the spoiler wire all the back through its just sitting in the hole i tried putting my hand in there from the underside of boot but cant feel anything lol, i had unclipped it from the white clip then from the top of boot pulled the wire all the way out as far as it would go so yeah, does this matter if i cant pull it back to the middle to plug the white clip back in and tape up the connection

bought the grommets and painted them the same colour but the yellow sticks out so much, might take me a month to get it welded up and resprayed since i wana get my wheels first, dont know if i can live with it looking that bad for a month though lol, maybe i should get this done first?

any ideas how to pull the wiring back in to the middle so i can clip it back in? think i might just put the spoiler back on until i get it welded and resprayed, there is one positive atleast the brake light in rear window works (bought a globe for it today)

was looking at that, although then you need to worry about rewiring everything and the berlina garnish doesnt go straight onto an exec, spac, acclaim boot does it looking at pictures of the normal boots it looks like you need to have parts cut out to fit it in?

Edit: actually looking a little more i realise the normal boots actually have a detatchable garnish too, i was thinking the solid colour ones were just part of the boot

What was wrong with the boot spoiler that you needed it gone?

The yellowing may need to be polished out with a stronger cutting polish, and if you are not sure how to do it properly, I would advise against playing the trial and error game, as you could easily polish the paint away to the undercoat causing more damage.
When you get the boot repaired, the whole area will need to be sanded back, as well as ground after welding and then a light skim of body filler to smooth the repair over, the entire boot will need to be resprayed and the areas around the boot "wet in" to blend the whole thing together. (wetting in is when the painter uses a very diluted paint to blend the newly painted panel with the original surrounding panels, this gives a more even look to the finished job)

A more economical idea would be as someone else suggested, buy a new/seconhand bootlid in a matching color that doesnt have a spoiler, and then to recoup some cash, sell the spoiler and original bootlid on ebay or the forum.

yeah not sure if that would work out cheaper or not, will still have to pay someone to rewire the new boot, but i will look into it (planning on going around to a heap of wreckers and panel beaters on monday, hopefully i have some luck)

Personally I think it looks really tacky when I see spoiler removals that have grommets in the holes. Either replace boot or weld up and respray. Both of which would fix the yellowing problem. If you cant afford to do either, leave spoiler on until you can.

Try some Meguiar's 'Scratch X' on the yellow. It removes contaminants as well as just taking out minor scratches. It isn't a cutting compound, so it shouldn't damage the paint like cut 'n' polish might.

yes it does look very bad i must say, wish i just left it on instead of going out and wasting $30 on polish, cloths, grommets to have it look worse then it did lol, if i can find another boot in silver what has no marks or anything ill do that otherwise i think it will be easier just getting my current one fixed up, the bottom screw holes on the curved part of boot are dented in a little, dont know if thats normal or if the screws were a bit tight, will that be easily brought back to a smooth even looking surface from weld/bodyfill?
