i think they might be for the heater core water inlet and outlet.
easy way to test get the car up to temp and turn the heater on if it comes out hot they are somthing else if it is cold then it is for the heater.
The old owner could have removed them if it had a leaking heater core, bit of a big job to change that.
hope this helps
yeah they r 4 the heater core the previous owner has by passed the core which im sure doing this can get u a yellow sticker. Brett would probably b right in saying the core was leaking and since its an expensive job 2 get some1 2 do 4 u it was an easy way out solution. if u did it urself tho would only cost around $170 and about 6-7 hours labour.

ouch 6-7 hours .... might plug the holes so its less noticeable till i can be bothered to fix it
and im guessing bypassing wont ruin anything .
thanks guys much appreciated

No ur coolent just runs through those lines ( 1 in and 1 out) 2 the heater core and heats it up so u can get heating into ur cabin. so by passing it just means its taking it out of the cooling systems circulation so u would have no heating or demisters which is wat u must have working on ur car.
