Default Sensor thing at front of motor, engine cut out

I was driving along and the engine just cut out, luckily only 1 klm from home then after towing it home I've checked all the fuses, relays and everything seemed ok.
I was then nosing around the front of the engine and I see a sensor thing with only 1 wire holding it on so I'm wondering what this sensor would control and would it stop it from starting.

Looks like that is either the cam position sensor plug or crank angle sensor plug... An yes, Either would stop it from starting.

    Cheers

Thanks Guys, I'll see the mechanic at work today and see if its possible to reconnect the wires or maybe a new one would be a better option.

At the very least, a new plug will be needed.

Today I took the sensor plug to our Holden dealer and they tell me its the oil temp sensor and they no longer sell any of the sensors or plugs for the VX and they wanted to sell me a wiring harness.
Repco and Autopro doesn't have a listing for the oil one but do sell the cam one as a complete unit so I went over to our wreckers and for $2.00 I have a sensor plug with good wiring
so I'll join and solder it together and fit the heat shrink tubing.

Would not having the temp sendor connected stop the engine from starting, if not it looks like I'll have to get the tilt tray truck to take it to a mechanic.

Conneted it all up and fitted a new battery and she fired first thing, ran for 10 seconds stopped, cranked it for a minute and then she ran again for 20 seconds and then no more.
I've been able to get it booked in at our Holden service centre next Friday and will have it trucked in on a tilt tray for $90.00
