don't all ways point to the crank angle sensor when your car stalls mid driving hot days
yes you can check by cooling the sensor with water, but after replacing x2 cas sensors in two weeks, plus CAM sensor, DFI + coils, battery leads and connections and the list goes on,
after replacing a list of parts within 6 weeks she drove OK until the next hot day and again stopped whilst driving, the only part we hadn't replaced was the FUEL pump, we did and problem solved!!!!!
each time she broke down it would start after 1-2 mins (same as with a faulty CAS) but NO FAULTS RECORDED!
keep in mind it could be the fuel pump.
Doing a code check will usually eliminate a few things first rather than just replacing what you think is the problem. The fact that it didn't set a code at least once, would indicate it's not the CAS.
Oh, and it's just a CAS, not a CAS sensor. It's not a Crank Angle Sensor sensor.
Probably because it's such a common issue. And faulty new ones have happened before. Also, a faulty CAS doesn't always throw a code up for some reason.
My daughter's VR had the same symptoms, I checked the codes and CAS code came up. Replaced it and still the same issue, won't start when hot and was getting harder to start when cold also. I suspected the fuel pump and eventually talked them into getting a new fuel pump. We put it in and it's been perfect ever since.
People say fuel pumps either work or they don't but that is not always the case, they wear out and get weak and don't build up enough pressure.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
Ive come across a couple of faulty CAS's now that werent logging any error codes. Ive also come across 2 dodgey brand new CAS's. Neither of them were genuine holden sensors, just cheaper rubbish from bursons or whereever..One faulty CAS wouldnt allow the car to start. The other one caused the car to stall etc every now and then, just like an old one does when its stuffed. Ive also noticed that heat doesnt have to always play a part in causing them to "play up" and cause stalling etc .(although it is fairly common for heat to effect these sensors when theyre old..)
Its best to fit genuine holden sensors when replacing them. They last longer and are more reliable.
