    Default coverting vt to manual

hey all. as the heading states. i want to convert my vt v6 to manual. i was told that the crank shaft in auto and manual vt's are different and the fly wheel woulnt bolt up to the original auto motor. is this true? and what is involved/parts list in doing the conversion? any help and advice would be awesome. thank you

Best procedure would be as follows.

    1. Sell V6 auto
    2. Buy V6 manual.

Saves much time and money! Thing is.....a v6 conversion is costly, time ineffective and the end result has greatly diminished resale value and has big reliability question marks.

There are 11,500 search results for "coverting vt to manual", please mate, use this feature in future for these sort of general questions.

The following threads (which were on the first page) may help you:
    Converting VT to manual transmission
    Converting the VT to manual
    VT/VX/VY Manual Conversion tips

That last one is very detailed.

In the end it is easier to simply buy a manual, but if you are as stupidly in love with your car as me, I understand you wanting to keep it.

An automatic transmission's main focus is smooth shifting between gears. To accomplish this it often goes into two gears at once while shifting up, which is known as a shift overlap.

It is a kit that can reduce or eliminate the shift overlap. It will also reduce wear because the transmission won't be trying to drive in two gears at once.

The result is the shift pattern is usually very aggressive (it will 'bang in' to gear) thus making a car a handful in the wet.

FULL RACE SHIFTS, PUTS THE DRIVER IN COMMAND, HOLDS 1ST 2ND AND 3RD TO ANY SPEED.

BACK SHIFTS TO 3RD 2ND AND 1ST AT ANY SPEED BY MOVING THE LEVER.

I'm not to sure with these shift kits but they look alright will be looking for one once I drop the 5SPD manual into my VX.

Another thing is adjusting the shift 'pattern' in an automatic gearbox involves interrupting the signal from the ECU to the transmission thus changing the shift patterns also open's up the possibility of damage to the already weakened transmission internals.

Just weigh up the options and the cash you have to spend.

dunno... ill look into getting the gearbox serviced/reco'd or replaced for new/reco'd if that could be causing the sluggishness.... cheers mate

if u get a book on the ecotecs u should be fine maybe look up how to on these forums or pay for mechanic to do it but if u have a mate that can help u u should be able to do it all ur self.

if u get the mechanics to do it u should telling them to put corvette servo in as well its an extra 50 or something and betters ur auto again. If u no nothing or a mate knows nothing about cars then best leave it to a proffesional.
