My 98 VT Berlina has a bit if a whine when I'm doing 60-70ish and upwards.
The sound comes from the rear - someone told me it's probably the diff and suggested I check the oil
Oil levels seem fine - is it worth draining and changing the oil? If its not the oil, will I need to replace the diff?
Cheers.

----bump----
A better quality/thicker oil CAN reduce diff whine. Ask you mechanic what he would recommend.
It may not do the job, but it's worth a shot before getting drastic.
i have that in my VX SI i believe it has something to do with the park brake shoes and there was a fix on the VX SII a spring was added ???
it is annoying in an otherwise quite car
is ya wheel bearings ok?? or dry even?????
same problem with my old girls car. was the diff bearings. tryed diffrent oils but in the end replace the diff pretty easy job really
Real cars don't power the front wheels, they lift them
Sounds like you have my missus sitting in the back seat!
