Hey guys, another overheating problem.
I like doing mods to my car on the cheap so opted for a piece of $15 dollar 2" exhaust pipe to replace my rear muffler. Eventually got it all welded up and it sounded pretty good to my surprise.
Anyway, took it for a test drive and as I was coming back up the hill the needle got to 3/4 on thetemp gauge (has never gone past between 1/4 and 1/2). Soon as I parked it and let it idle it instantly went back to it's normal spot on the gauge.
I thought maybe cause I was poking it abit it may have got warm so this morning I nannied it to work and same thing, got to 3/4 and soon as I parked up it went down.
Haven't had time to check levels or anything, surely the straight through pipe couldn't be doing this?
I doubt too that the exhaust has done this.
1st Q. When was the last time you serviced the cooling system?
Most of the blokes at work sed the thermo stat too. Might put a new one in this arvo.
In the year and a bit I've owned the car I haven't serviced the cooling system only cause web I bought it the previous owner had just replaced the radioator water pump thermo coolant and all hoses.
Reckon it needs one? Or a good flush?
I'd give it a quick flush while youve got the thermostat off.
i had the same problem mate. i flushed the system then everything was fine.
could just have a block in your radiator if it went back down to cold again, give it a good flush.
Starin at the world through my rearview
Go on baby scream to God, he can't hear you
I can feel your heart beatin fast cause it's time to die
Gettin high, watchin time fly
Ok well turns ou I should check my coolant alot more often. It is as dry as a bone. I'll top it up with water to get home and give it a good flush today or tomorrow with coolant.
Cheers for all the ideas
Look for the leak now too.
start with the hoses, replace old split ones, give them a good squeeze after shutdown with the motor hot, then check the radiator followed by the motor.
Also replace the cap if it is suspect.
Sounds like you have alot of work ahead of you.
Coolant would not disappear that quickly. I would do what VR38 suggested. Check for leaks. Could be anything from Pipes, Radiator Cap, Overflow Bottle Leaks, Radiator crack leaks, Thermostat issues, leaks in manifold gaskets or even worse leaking Head Gasket.
