weird noise when accelerating/decelerating

hi guys,i joined this forum to see if anyone can give me an idea to why my car is making this noise? It is a 2000 vt series 2 and was originally bought with 15inch rims,when i first purchased it i did not have my licence so i let my mother take it for a test ride and as far as i can remember it did not make this noise? ( i am not positive though ). I then put on 17inch rims and noticed the noise but was told it is because the wheels are larger so they will make a weird noise. But from driving a mates car with larger mag wheels i realise that there may be another problem. The noise sounds like a train speeding up/slowing down (not the clancking noise but the whinning noise). Any ideas on what the problem might be? I plan to put my mates wheels on mine and see if it still makes the noise but until then yous might have a diagnosis..

Yeah it will be a tyre noise... I had this sound on one of my cars and thought it was diff whine, but turns out it was just tyre noise.... Expensive way of finding out...
