Default VX Acclaim ignition barrel jamed

After having our 2002 VX Acclaim picked up with a tilt tray truck during the week the Holden dealer service centre called me on Wednesday to say the ignition is locked and won't release.
I said garbage because before the car was collected it was fine and I now see it is stuffed so we think the truck driver had the steering on lock when it was pulled backwards onto the truck and has caused the ignition to jam.
Of cause the driver refuses to admit any wrong doing so I'm wondering if anyone has ever had the VX ignition barell/key replaced and what kind of dollars would I be looking at.
The service centre needs to unlock the steering so they can see why the engine won't start so it looks as if I'll be back on the bicycle for another week..

It's a fairly easy job, I've done a few due to the very back pin of the barrell breaking, the only issue you may have is your's is completly jammed, and it needs to be in the accessories postion (from memory) to get the barrell out. The holden service centre should be able to do it for you since it's there anyway

Brother-in-law had it done a little while ago and I think it was about $100. Locksmith did it. And if you felt inclined you could go to the small claims tribunal to try and get money from tow truck company. It is a PIA but.....

    His say, your say

Theres also 'wear and tear' and general failure, Unless you can prove that the front wheels were on lock when the car went onto the truck, theres nothing much to claim on.

On the not starting business, it could be a failed ignition barrel in which got worse. Just a thought

I'm not interested in claiming anything, accidents do happen and since its an important part of the car a new one will be nice.

30.01.12 Update: While I was at the wreckers getting some parts for the rod I told them about the igition and they admited it was locked so they are willing to pay for the the barrel.

I've had a win, the service centre calls me and said the barrel can't be released and a new steering column needs fitting even before the engine fault can be addressed.
I told them to put it on a tilt tray truck and send it home so I can fit a second hand column and then an hour latter they ring me again to say while the locksmith was there doing another job he removed the barrel in a minute.
They had a barrel in stock and the engine fault was the coil and best of all they never charged me for any of the labour.
The gods must have been on my side that day otherwise I'd be up the creek and without a paddle.

It sounds to me like they were planning to rip you right off and rather than lose you business they settled for less.
