Hey all, I've been doing a lot of research, cant find the answer, therefore posting
I've got a 98 VT - I wound down the passenger elec window yesterday, it would only wind back up halfway, then wouldn't do anything just made clicking noise for up and down. Now it's just gone nearly all the way down, and it will go up and down about an inch when it feels like it, the rest of the time just clicking noise. Have taken the trim off, checked the plugs, runners etc cant see what the problem is. I also pulled out the window switches from my other car to try that, no go.
About a week ago I noticed it was intermittently stopping when winding up and down, but would still work - this window motor is good it normally flies up and down
Any ideas would be much appreciated
This really sucks cause it's raining here gotta keep a tarp over the car![]()
Has the felt worn on the rubber seal? Sometimes it wears and causes the glass to grip then won't go up easily. Spray a bit of tyre shine on the remaining felt, it's worked for me.
I took all trims off about a month ago, replaced all nylon runners, greased everything, silicone sprayed everything - but have just tried the tyre shine anyway - no go
Just tried the window, still has a mind of it's own, goes up a bit, then down, now has clicking noise again. Very frustrating.
Any other suggestions?
I have 2 options you can loosen the bolts holding the window on the run and see if it winds up and if that doesn't work replace the motor for that window
Sounds like the gears in the motor spinning, also check the regulator if its distorted it may have over worked the motor
Sometimes the window motor still working but the gears inside the regulator is broken, last I change mine regulator, the old one motor still working, but gears almost nothing left, last time I bought the new regulator for front passenger side was $110~~
check the centre switch, sometimes the copper contacts corrode or get this black build up and only send current to the window actuator intermittently. you can either get a replacement switch or if you feel like getting really fiddly and saving some coin get some 600 wet and dry and pull the switch apart and give them a bit of a clean up. BEWARE OF THE INTERNAL SPRINGS! if you lose them youll be mad at me for suggesting it.
If its not the switch then maybe the wiring harness has a cut or some gunk in it, try soaking the connectors in some contact cleaner, the fact that it is still clicking and going up and down occasionally makes me think this is an electrical blockage of some kind. my vt did the exact same thing.
