ive had to top up the water in my radiator heaps in the last week, since it started getting hot out of no where. i think i have figured out whats leaking but i dont know what its called. on idle it drips a little bit, but took it for a drive and then looked under the bonnet and there was water everywhere underneath it and leaking down onto the ground.
does anyway know what its called and how much they are to replace?
cheers
oh, its located on the drivers side, right next to the strut tower
Its called a Heater Tap,
Shouldn't be too much to replace, Repco and the likes should have a aftermarket version.
Just be sure its the tap that leaking, not the cords in the hose weeping
Same thing went on my VN, 45bucks from Repco. Or 40bucks from the wreckers lol.
im not exactly sure that its the heater tap, but thats where all the water is coming from.
are they a common problem for leaking?
ill get a replacement one and if it stil leaks from there then well it must be the hoses
Brittle plastic. It gets old and cracks. Will happen once every ten years or soo.
it's a tap heater
thanks for the info, going to get one on thursday.
r they just a simple swap over job or should i be weary about somethings?
you can get them off ebay for less then 20 bucks however i dont kow how good teh quality is, im pretty sure there the same as the ones repco sell, or used to sell as now its all there own branded stuff but yeh
Double post. I'm having trouble with this forum lately.

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
May I suggest that when you replace it that you flush the system and fill it with the correct coolant. From the photo it looks like just rusty water leaking without a trace of coolant, that will lead to more problems down the track, because things are corroding in there. Oh, and bleed the system when you are done or it will probably overheat.

as above and try not to pull at the hoses going to the heated core and save yourself some heart ache
$15 at Bursons, cheapest place you'll get it.
Given that it's summer and you dont really need a heater, you can temporarily bypass it so your car doesn't overheat.

going to get the heater tap (or what ever it is called) tomorrow from supercheap, and also coolant and flush.
one more thing, im not exactly sure on how to flush my radiator, despite having searched nearly a billion different threads. i was going to do it this way,
pour in the flush and run for 20 minutes, maybe even a drive, then when the engines cold, take off bottom and top radiator hoses, turn heater to hot and full, take out thermostat and run a garden hose through the top hose til it comes out clear out the bottom hose. then put everything back on. should i undo the screw in the thermo now?
then to refill do i pour in the coolant until it fills the radiator then run the engine and continue to fill while coolant circulates the engine?
That will work. When the flush is in three make sure your heater is on full bore
prolly wouldnt hurt doing the heater hoses while ur at it, might saving u from doing it again later if they have never been changed b4.
