Default Bottom radiator hose blow off..

Okay so the new berlina wagon i picked up had to go back into the shop the day i bought it to get a new radiator, hoses and thermostat.
Last night, driving along i notice i can smell coolant, i then look behind me and can see a faint trail of water so i pull into a 7/11 notice steam coming from under the bonnet and notice the lower radiator hose has come off from the motor

My mate, a mechanic also reckons the radiator hoses weren't pressurizing properly.. could this all be due to a lazy mechanic not tightening up hose clamps or could the original issue, which was a blocked radiator and hoses still be an issue

    Cheers, Jack

sounds like a blocked radiator, building up pressure in the system.

you might want to get it flushed properly.

If the hoses are correctly fitted with either original spring clamp or with a worm drive clamp, they WON'T blow off. In the event of excess system pressure, the radiator cap will release this pressure into the over flow bottle!

You noticed a faint trail of coolant? Even though the lower hose which is the bottom of the cooling system wasn't attached lol

If the hose clamp wasn't tightened the hose will come off under pressure.

So you do have a new radiator and hoses then?

Parabola - It is a new radiator and hoses, i cant see it being blocked already.. Apparently the block was flushed properly.. Never took my VN to a workshop and it ran perfectly.. maybe have to do it all myself.

Pablo - Thats what i thought, perhaps the bottom radiator hose clamp wasnt tightened however i have driven around 1000kms would have thought it would have come off sooner. Although it did happen when i gunned it off the line a bit

Cameron - Well it was still dropping a bit of water, mind you i only drove a minute before stopping, as for being a feint trail.. i have dark windows and it was midnight.. i couldnt see shit to be honest.. just a dark line i assumed was from me lol

Oh well.. i have tightened the clamp up properly and refilled the radiator with coolant.. Seems to be okay.. just have to wait for a decent drive of more then 5 mins

Sounds like the clamp either wasn't tightened correctly or it was installed too far towards the end of the radiator outlet.

Is the radiator hose a nice snug fit? Maybe it's the wrong id? I'd bet that the hose clip just wasn't done up. Doesn't seem feasible to be anything else. Every other scenario I can think of is at least double fault.

well ive done enough driving today to build up some pressure, seems okay after tightening the clamp... Have reg n uni bills coming in but might get a inlet manifold gasket kit when these bills are gone and do a good flush of the system... If you want a job done properly, do it yourself
