Hi i had an appointment i had to go to today went out to start my car and all i can seem to do is unlock the steering wheel with my keys and than the key seems to just slide all the way around to start with no resistance or spring and nothing turns on accessories, dash pre check lights etc nothing. so i went to the holden dealers and all they had to say was it is my keypad and i had to pay 130 dollars to replace and get it reprogrammed yet im not sure if this is correct or not since my sisters commodore starts without the key in the key pad.. also my keypads central locking etc still works fine would it be the ignition switch busted or barrel? or is holden right any help would be appreciated.
edit: spent ages trying to find the same identifiable thing happening to me on the web but just cant seem to.
cheers Justin.
My bet would be the pin on the bottom of the ignition barrel has broken and is not turning the switch.
thanks for the reply just been outside looking at the dam thing how do you remove the plastics to get into the barrel dont wanna go snapping the plastics around it.
cheers.
Normally I find this problem to be caused by the steering column. You can still salvage your ignition barrel to keep the correct key, the column is held in with 2 13mm bolts and then slides off. You will obviously need to remove the shroud, steering wheel, air bag, clock spring, indicator stalks and key reader. Make sure you disconnect your battery first.
