Default Massive oil leak!!!! Please help!

    Hey guys,

I just got a VX Commodore wagon. I spent $800 today buying new stuff oil, coolant spark plugs etc. when i jacked the car up i noticed a large amount of oil start leaking from what looked like just behind the lowest (large) pulley, or the gasket above the Oil sump. has anyone else had this? Is this possible for me to fix myself or does it need to go to a mechanic?

    thanks for your thoughts.

The actual seal is easy to replace but the bolt for the harmonic balancer can be a pain to undo (plenty of threads with tips on how to undo the bolt) and you will need a puller to get the harmonic balancer off. It's called the front main seal, I think.

Socket on the bolt, extension on the socket, bar on the extension under the chassis rail, kick the starter over gradually with the key until it loosens the bolt.

pressure clean the front of the engine and recheck after a couple of days to confirm oil leak from either timing case seal or sump gasket or both

disconnect injectors so that engine does not fire and continues to run .

There are lots of threads, just use the search function top right of your screen.

    Hope you get it sorted.

You should get hold of a workshop manual for your car. The stuff you want to know is explained, step by step, with plenty of pics or diagrams, you cant go wrong. Gregorys workshop manuals are pretty good.. These manuals are well worth the money and can save you a fortune if you do your own work on your car.
