Howdy, the other day I was cleaning out my throttle body and had a look inside the intake manifold and it has at least a 5mm think layer of carbon coating the
inside, so I decided to clean it. Unfortunately I'm an idiot and managed to round off the insides of the screws with an Allen key and now I am out of ideas on how
to undo the screws any ideas would be much appreciated.
This is a photo I pulled off google as I cant be bothered taking a picture of how my screws look.
Any tips on cleaning the manifold would be great as well, thanks.
You could drill them out and then re-tap(worst case scenario)
If you can grip them, you might be able to use a pair of pliers or a multigrip to grab the top and turn them.
If they don't work, pick-a-part could get you a 2nd hand one. If you do get them out, get some better bolts to replace them.
Sorry I can't be of much help.
iv tried pliers but im yet to try a multigrip if that doesn't work im going to have to drill them out as they are f***'d anyway and get new ones
Can ya not cut a grove in them and use a screwdriver to undo them ?
get a punch and give them a tap, that always frees them up.

try hammering a torx bit into head of bolt, 1st size up that doesn't just slide in
Or a hacksaw or coping saw with a metal blade would be a lot safer then a grinder
lol or he could just drill them out which is probs the easiest way.

Ok so ive used a coping saw to cut a nice slice into it but even with a screw driver it refused to turn. If i drill them out how would i re-tap them?
Cheers for the help.
By yourself some of these, Irwin 394001 Bolt Grip Base Set I got mine from Bunnings, brilliant tool.
You need some stilsons. They are the best way to remove stripped bolts. It's what they are designed for
The BEST way to do this is to grind a flat spot on both sides of the screws and keep doing this until an open ended spanner fits on. Then just undo like a normal bolt. I use this same method to remove 1/2 shafts from diffs when clowns have rounded out the hex bolts and it works 1st time every time. You won't get enough force with a flathead screwdriver.
Find a nut somewhere that one of those bolts screws into perfectly and then take that nut to Bunnings and buy screws that also fit into that nut.

+1 for stilsons on these alan headed bolts. Get hold of a small set.
Some WD40. Give the bolts a few taps with a hammer before you start... but not too hard because they're screwed into easily broken cast alloy!!
If you start grinding away at the sides of these small alan headed bolts you'll weaken them. The whole head could then break off when you try to turn it.
If you have a screwdriver with a square shaft that you can lock a shifter or spanner on that will help has worked for me in the past or file the edge on the bolt works a treat aswell just don't file to much off or ya could get some easy out bits .
Hey Boddyy,Im going to try this later, will let you know how it went.If we don't hear from you we'll know you stuffed it.
You could take this as a warning not to proceed any further. If you drop anything down the runners you're in deep chit.
Stay safe.
