resetting VT trip computer

I am having a hard time resetting to zero my trip computer on my 99 vt senator.
it has the triple display and the manual says to press up and down buttons at the same time while in trip or time travelled mode, i have done this a million times and still cant reset anything!. any ideas please.

Try pressing the down button first and while holding that in press the up button and release both. works for me.
