As of last time I did work on my car, it only starts if I unlock it and try starting it within about 30seconds, anymore than that and it will start but cut out within 2 seconds. I then have to lock it and unlock it then start it which works every time with that method.

This is what work I've done lately:

>Removed the dash facia to:
-Remove the instrument cluster to remove the green laminate & replace bulbs with blue ones.
>Replace facia to woodgrain
>Remove A/C to remove green laminate from

>Removed centre console to change:
-Gear selector handle to leather
-Gear selector button chrome
-Bulb that illuminates the gear selected to blue
-Gear selector surround to woodgrain

>replaced parkers, driving & high beam bulbs.

I'll take a video when I can of the problem & try to get a stopwatch or something to get the maximum time between unlocking & successful start of the engine.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

It sounds like immobilizer is turning back on. Does the security light in the mode switch start flashing again about the time it won't start?

Whereabouts is it located? in the engine bay?

Unfortunately it is in the BCM so it means changing the BCM. Try disconnecting the battery for a while to reset the BCM, it might work.

I had the battery disconnected for about 10-15mins while changing my RHS driving bulb, maybe over night would do the trick?

Has that method worked before?

There's no harm in trying mate, 10-15 minutes should be enough, but you never know with computers (trust me, they can be stupid). If you can leave it off overnight, may as well.

Hi

Could be the wire that connects the metal key ring on your ignition barrel also.
Just take your steering wheel covers off to have a look.

Cheers Mick

Shall check tomorrow after work but I'm thinking if it was that, would it crank at all? because the connection is effectively severed completely.

With the immobilzer on, if you turn the key quickly from off to start the engine will fire up for a second and die, if you take longer to turn the key the starter will still crank but it won't start. I doubt that the key reader is the problem.
