Hi Everyone
This is my first post on the forum since purchasing my VX Equipe in March.
I wanted to install some driving lights on my car and searched these forums for a way to use the existing fog light wiring and switches.
However everyone who had done it on here took it to an auto electrician to get it changed over to high beam switching, instead of on with all lights.
So I thought I would share with you all how easy it is to do yourself.
Firstly remove the plug from the fog light switch - there should be 4 wires. You want the plain blue wire - cut it off about 3 cm from the back of the plug to give you something to work with. Tape the rest of the wire up in the loom so it can't cause you any problems.
Now remove the steering column shrouds (pretty straight forward - pull the top cover upwards and out. Then there is one screw holding the bottom cover on and pull it forwards to unclip it.) Now you need to remove the indicator stalk which is held in by two plastic tabs. Press down on these and pull straight out of the channels holding it in. On the back of this switch is a blue wire with a yellow trace. This is the high beam switching wire.
Now all you need to do is connect these two wires. I would suggest using the plastic wire splicers that crimp on or soldering if thats your bent. Run a wire from there and connect it to the 3cm of wire at the back of the plug. Tape up all your connections and put it back together.
All you need then is to connect up your lights, pop in a relay and a bulb in the instrument cluster and away you go. You should have lights that come on and off with the high beam.
Hope this is of some benefit to everyone else who may be wanting to do the same thing.
For anyone who is interested here is a pic of my car. I like it and I hope you do too.
