Default Cheap cheap effective mods for ecotec???

    G'day all,

Just wanting some advice on good cheap mods for a stock v6 ecotec. I only want to spend about $2500.

What sort of power increase should i expect and where can I get it done in Melb??

gear change is around $1000 - $1200 new including labour (ring around diff shops are happy to quote over the phone) not a DIY job .... unless you want to spend near the same amount buying parts and tools for the job

new exhaust $250 (labour not included)
new extractors (pacemakers) about $400 - $450 (labour not included)
and a chip you can either get done by som1 on this site for around $100 - $150 or buy from a shop for $400 + (you can put this one in yourself no matter how little you know about cars)

and dont forget air filter and roller rockers.
im looking at sports exhaust, k&n filter, headers, roller rockers, chip, and a dyno tune in that order.... mostly as a cost thing but no point having rockers and chip if it cant breathe.

K&N Filter will let the air flow better and will have some gain but will need the extractors and exhaust to make the most of it.
as for leads and plugs: more for smoother running.
performance leads and plugs are more for when you do more than just minor mods like you want.
just change them when they are required when servicing. i dont see the need to spend the money on them unless the car is running rough or missing

Its not really worth spending all that money on a ECOTEC V6.

Better spending the money on an engine that responds to tuning like a GenIII V8 or a Turbo VL

The ECOTECH V6 is a slow heap of shit

$2500 would be close to get you a sv6 wich are apparently good for over 400hp with stock internals, would prolly work out better than spending $2500 on your ecotec

gear changes, i assume you mean diff gear changes. changing the ratio of your differential is basically increases or decreases the tractive effort of your car. how many turns of your tailshaft to one full rotation of your wheel. the higher the ratio of your diff i.e the higher the number 3.86, 4.11, the easier it is for your car to turn the wheels. the only downside is the higher you go, the more top end speed you lose, so effectively you have to rev your car more to get the speed out of it. there are a few different types of roller rockers, you can have roller pedestals which are on the ecotecs and rockers with roller tips.............

i presume you are talking about the VL Turbo 6. stock it put out 150kw at the fly, the next 6cyl motor to put out that much power stock was the VS S/C V6 which was 165kw's. the na ecotec was 147kws. lets not bring the alloytec into it, it's a totally different motor with potential.

if you put a boost controller on a stock VLT for $50 you would have 200kw's at the fly.

so yes the ecotec is an out of date P.O.S push rod motor, but i like it.
