G'day all,
Just wanting some advice on good cheap mods for a stock v6 ecotec. I only want to spend about $2500.
What sort of power increase should i expect and where can I get it done in Melb??

Exhaust, extractors, diff ratio change and a chip.
it will put a BIG grin on your face
^^^^ all true except they wont be cheap those four things will set you back at least $1500 second hand
im not admiring your car im looking in disgust
Cheers boys,
How much roughly brand new?
gear change is around $1000 - $1200 new including labour (ring around diff shops are happy to quote over the phone) not a DIY job .... unless you want to spend near the same amount buying parts and tools for the job
new exhaust $250 (labour not included)
new extractors (pacemakers) about $400 - $450 (labour not included)
and a chip you can either get done by som1 on this site for around $100 - $150 or buy from a shop for $400 + (you can put this one in yourself no matter how little you know about cars)
im not admiring your car im looking in disgust
and dont forget air filter and roller rockers.
im looking at sports exhaust, k&n filter, headers, roller rockers, chip, and a dyno tune in that order.... mostly as a cost thing but no point having rockers and chip if it cant breathe.
Matrix
Appreciate your help.
diff overhaul and ratio change $750 (3:45.1)
Exhaust and extractors brand new and installed $1200
Chip installed with calibration for diff ratio change and shift points $400
K&N Panel filter $120 (install yourself)
Total $2470 (with $30 change - half a tank of fuel)
Total $2470 (with $30 change - half a tank of fuel)[/QUOTE]
$30 bucks for half a tank , gas must be cheap over there
Do K&N air filter
Top Gun performance leads and Performance Plugs give the car extra kilowatts??
K&N Filter will let the air flow better and will have some gain but will need the extractors and exhaust to make the most of it.
as for leads and plugs: more for smoother running.
performance leads and plugs are more for when you do more than just minor mods like you want.
just change them when they are required when servicing. i dont see the need to spend the money on them unless the car is running rough or missing
ok a little under half a tank(from empty light on to FULL)....thats with the more expensive BP Ultimate 98Originally Posted by INSAYN
it will at least give you a couple of hours of fun to test the new gear out.
Its not really worth spending all that money on a ECOTEC V6.
Better spending the money on an engine that responds to tuning like a GenIII V8 or a Turbo VL
The ECOTECH V6 is a slow heap of shit
we got some friends at a place called "blue-chip tuning" that might beg to differ....Originally Posted by Heckel

$2500 would be close to get you a sv6 wich are apparently good for over 400hp with stock internals, would prolly work out better than spending $2500 on your ecotec

wot does gear changes do?
and wot r roller rockers?
sorry 4 dumb questions lol
actualy the v6 allmost puts out twice the amount of hp then the 6tvlOriginally Posted by Heckel

gear changes, i assume you mean diff gear changes. changing the ratio of your differential is basically increases or decreases the tractive effort of your car. how many turns of your tailshaft to one full rotation of your wheel. the higher the ratio of your diff i.e the higher the number 3.86, 4.11, the easier it is for your car to turn the wheels. the only downside is the higher you go, the more top end speed you lose, so effectively you have to rev your car more to get the speed out of it. there are a few different types of roller rockers, you can have roller pedestals which are on the ecotecs and rockers with roller tips.............Originally Posted by VL-187
i presume you are talking about the VL Turbo 6. stock it put out 150kw at the fly, the next 6cyl motor to put out that much power stock was the VS S/C V6 which was 165kw's. the na ecotec was 147kws. lets not bring the alloytec into it, it's a totally different motor with potential.Originally Posted by burnz
if you put a boost controller on a stock VLT for $50 you would have 200kw's at the fly.
so yes the ecotec is an out of date P.O.S push rod motor, but i like it.
Never late, in a 30..4 lol![]()
VLT6 are a wannabe rice boys dream car.. they dont match up to a nice ecotec... and the only thing a VL driver floggs is his long tom..
oh i see, lol!!! you guys were just trying to roll me up hehehehehe!!!
but yeah in all seriousness, nissan motors can't be laughed at. they have the technology the bastards. if only holden could get a sniff of it.
