Help. Air con fan turns itself off

Hi all, am having problems with my air con lately.
It will be on, working ok, and the the fan turns itself off for a minute or so and then turns itself back on. I also have a cross come up on the climate control every now and then but half the time if the cross is there the aircon is still working alright. just wandering if anyone has had problems like this before.

BTW. it is a 2002 Statesman with climate

the X usually means the sun sensor isnt working

this is a thing in the middle of your dash

could be a dry joint or something stupid

Is there a way to check this, what can I do or to I have to take it into holdens.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
I know where the sensor is (I think),
Could the dashmat covering it make this occur?
I have cut the dashmat hole bigger for the sensors but maybe it still covers it.

its a round thing between the demister vents

will this sensor stop the air cond from cooling . i just replaced my blower fan and the cross is now showing on my screen (vr calais ) . is the a way to over ride it or do you need to get another one and hope that it had stopped working or then have to look for another problem ?

When a X shows in the bottom corner that indicates a fault with ECC.
