The other day I filled my VT acclaim Wagon to the top. After restarting the fuel guage went to full then dropped to empty and the warning empty light came on.The trip computer displays distance to empty as ___________.
I now have no fuel guage.Does anyone know how to test whether it's the sender or the guage?
    thanks

Micko, I am not sure how much help I can be here since I don't know a great deal about the VT+, I have heard from numerous people on the VT the fuel sender unit is fairly popular to pack it in. It could be a simple case of it needing to be cleaned or its time for a new one.

They tend to get a lot of garbage around them.

As for finding out which one is at fault, I'm not so sure.

    Hi guys,
While my fuel guage was faulty ,my brother recommended that I use the trip computer to keep tab on how many K's I had driven,so i didn't run out of fuel.
I found the trip computer was on 9999.I reset this and mysteriously the fuel guage started working again.
It seems that the fuel guage is linked to the trip computer which when the trip computer locked up so did the fuel guage.

My fuel sender unit is Fubar as well, I took it to holden and they got their auto electrician to check it out and he told me to replace it as its not fixable . Holden quoted me $300 for a new unit supplied and installed. I find mine tends to fail just after filling it up. Also some times my light comes on but the guage still works . I agree that the best way of dealing with this is just reset the trip counter after filling up.

Apparently there's a recall,.. or at least a mate that owns a VY-S1-SS has been asked to take it back for a problem with the fuel sender that he doesn't seem to think he has a problem with.

So you may be able to get away with a warranty/recall type of fix.

it's definitely a waranty issue. holden have been keeping it a bit hush-hush, if you contact them (delaer) i believe they will fix it up for you.

i clearly remember brocky running out of fuel in his monaro on targa, being interviewed saying how the fuel gauge said it had fuel and it ran out!
