Anyone Know How To Test O2 Sensors?
Ok,
Start with the paperclip diagnostic test - its a long method - search for o2 and paperclip and you should find it.
If you get code 13 its not working.
So then check if its earthing (using a multimeter). When you sort out the earth and still get code 13, go buy an ALDL cable so you can look at the data.
Look at the data, get other peoples opinions on what it could be. Try all of these.
Then you are where I am - One oxygen sensor, One multimeter, and One ALDL cable later, still getting 15L/100km on a 6

I don't know how to test them but if your car drinks like a fish, changing the O2 sensors nine times out of ten fixes this. I did in my case and the car idles better too.

Anyone know how much the sensors cost?
About $140 at Holden, Repco have Bosch for $130 and their own brand for around $80 and last week I bought some at Auto-one for $70 each and they seem alright. About a month ago I bought some on ebay for $35 each and they were fine, the car ran much better after I put them in, but after about 2weeks I started getting fault codes from both sensors and the car started running crap again, therefore I had to replace them again. I suppose it would be safest to buy them from Holden but as usual I was strapped for cash.
How often do O2 Sensors need to be changed?
To test O2 sensors properly you need an oscilloscope. Or as Jack was saying log your ALDL data with the cable & software.
Have you tried the 4 wire sensor yet Jack or are you still trying to save up the money?????
They say about every 80-100,000 kms because they lose their efficiency after a while. I don't know for sure but this is what I've read on a few different web pages.Originally Posted by mistaken
Hmm ok. I'm unsure if mine has been changed. Clicked over 164,000 so will add it to the list *sigh*Originally Posted by accentstencil
As Storm said earlier, if you are using a lot of petrol, as mine was, there is a good chance that it is you oxygen sensors.I wasn't getting fault codes from my original sensors but that doesn't mean the were working properly. My car was also not too good on pick up, especially on hot days. I change mine at about 250,000 kms and I could really feel the difference, money well spent. By the way, there are 2 oxygen sensors, one in each exhaust pipe.Originally Posted by mistaken
