All,

First time posting to these forums, please be gentle...

I have just been told by Holden that the Airbag in the drivers side seat needs replacing. After getting the quote for approx $370 for the supply and fit of said airbag I told them I would get back to them. The other problem I have is the base of the seat on the RHS all of the foam has worn out.

My question, would it be better (read cheaper) for the whole seat to be replaced with a new one or get the airbag replaced and then get the seat re padded and upholstered??? Cost is a concern but gettting the seat right and legal is of more importance.

Any advice is greatly appreciated...

Regards,

Scott

is it a new invention of having a airbag in the seat ...? or are you refering to the side inclusion airbag (supliment SRS) and with the seat it would sepend on the type of set you have ? is it a electric/no electric ? bucket seat ort just standard trim seat ???

Baldric,

Refering to the side curtain airbags in the back of the two front seats. The seat is the standard seat the comes with the 'S' but has had the airbag upgrade put into it when I purchased the car in 2001. Electric seat in as far as it is electric for the seat height adjustment but thats all.

Scott

get the airbag done and get a new foam cushion & trim for it.
Way cheaper than replacing the whole seat.

We have the same dilemma in out Vt calais, after many quotes I can tell u that it will almost certainly be cheaper to have the seat repaired than buy a new one. The quotes we got were however for leather but I still think it will be cheaper to just get it repaired.

Let us know how u go :)

Not sure what the reason was but that was what Holden said.

Other things that didnt last long were the two diffs that the car has had in it, going for the 3rd soon, engine ECU (the one for the gearbox) packing up and 2-3 shift solonoid just to name a few.......

Exactly what i was thinking. The El-cheapo seat covers that my parents put in our Hilux have lasted longer than that...they've been on the front seats of the Hilux for at least 200,000 kms, if not more. And they're not terriffic seat covers, either. They're just cheap ones. :p

(yes, i should go to bed, i know. :p)
