My vt has a problem where the unlock and lock buttons need to be pressed to start the car, if I don't the dash lights come on but the starter motor dosn't get any charge. I had a auto electrician look at and he said it was the keys, but I don't think so because how come both keys went at the same time (one key has always been a spare). The unlocking and locking seem to reset the engine immobiliser?? is this possible?
Has anyone got a clue what is happening here?
David
Isn't that just the immobiliser kicking in?
Or do you have to lock the car and then unlock it, just to start it?
yes i have to push the buttons on the key then i put the key in the ignition and it will start, if i try to start it again it won't until i play with the buttons again
Ok I know this same thing happens on my Corolla, it's just the immobiliser..
Don't you unlock the car before you start it everytime anyway? My car is always locked, as I approach it I unlock, get in the car and start it..
Doesn't even sound like a problem to me mate..
Do you mean the actual holden key buttons, or then ones on your immobiser keypad, where you have to press before you are able to start the car?
Because i thought mine had i similar problem, but then i realised i had to put the key in and turn it to accessories, then press the immobiliser button :/
Lol maybe its just me.
I guess it not a problem now that I know how to start it, but it took two days before we stumbled on a "work around". I am just curious as to what is wrong.
I don't even think it's a problem.. But if it was, it would be a problem with your BCM..
Get a 1/2" spanner and disconnect your battery for half an hour.. It makes the computer forget a lot of information, not sure abotu the BCM, but you got nothing to lose..

Mate TBH, I don't think you even have a problem. It's just your immobilser at work..
Ok I will try this - Just about to fly out for 8 days so will reply after I get backGet a 1/2" spanner and disconnect your battery for half an hour.. It makes the computer forget a lot of information, not sure abotu the BCM, but you got nothing to lose..
dont try the above it wont work.
although Shounack is trying to be helpful he is wrong (not bagging you champ)
i had the same problem you are having and when i took it to Holden for some new keys (old ones stuffed up) they couldnt program the new ones coz the car couldnt find the key in the ignition.
SOLUTION:
$90 and half hour later it was fixed.
if you have a look at your ignition barrel where your key goes in you will see 2 metal flaps. the small silver ball on the end of you key touches them and when it goes into accessories or ignition (cant remember) it disarms the immobilisor.
at the end of these in the steering column under the plastic they connect to wires that go to BCM.
my connections on the end of these was dodgy so the car electrician at City Motors Holden in perth pulled the column apart and got to the area.
he gave it some love and wolla...fixed and not an issue since then.
The scary thing is that 3 times i went to start the car up over 9 months (and no i didnt start the car up only 3 times in 9 months. it happened 3 times over a space of 9 months) and as soon as i turned the key from ignition to start it would clip (relay) and the car lost complete power.
i mean COMPLETE power. no internal light, no way of locking doors electronically, no radio display. NOTHING.
i carried a spanner in the car all the time to take off the wire on the battery to reset it.
hasnt happened since i got the above ignition flaps fixed.
The Slip ring as reported above is the older design, Best to replace for the later revised slip ring, it has the full metal contact ring.
you mean the key reader? i got one of the newerones from holden for 14 bux i think, pretty easy to replace too
its not the bit of the slip ring that you see but under the steering column plastic where the connection is that is causing the problem.
