    Default Super Charger Whistle

ok i'm just curious as i'm pretty sure that this is normal, My mate was driving beside my car the other night, and i've fed it quite a bit and got the revs up and he reckons there was high pitched whistle from the exhaust, the exhaust and all is hi-flowed. The whistle is completely normal isn't it.

yeah think it was just the normal winding noise, my mate reckons it was a whistling but everything seems to run ok.

i loooove the whine from a car with a supercharger! anyone ever see a pink LH torrie at summernats in the burn-out comp a few years ago with the blown EFI V8? it was a 308 and that thing screamed! and i mean it literally SCREAMED! it sounds like had someone pimpslapping a whore under the bonnet. it sounded totally aaaaaawesome! the car was in street machine a few years back (feb '01). the plates on it are JRNLH2 if that refreshes anyones memory

yes you can, if you really want that shit pshhhhh noise that the turbo wankers love, along with ghey rear spoilers that would look more at home on a light aircraft

that aside thrubocharging is a great way to make power, tho it has its problems - such as lagging. whereas with a supercharger you get the mind blowing tourque that they make from the instsant you turn the key.

Those turbos on your car are miniscule and insignificant tt vs ecotech (nice setup btw, whats its et?), if you want to see real turbos go look at the ones on a 793 cat oht, there the size of dinnerplates and theres 4 of them, and they make that sweet sweet whisleing noise like theres no tomorrow :P

the whistle noise you speak of could either be the supercharger or the chrome tip on the pipe. I had a rounded off tip on my VR V6 and it screamed when I planted my foot in first gear I sadly missed it when I fitted the sports 2 1/2 inch zorst funny though I never knew where the sound was coming from until it disapeared with the old exhaust!

the fact that lag is almost non-existent in a positive displacement supercharged car is true, however, with a centrifugal supercharger, there can be just as much lag as a turbo until crankshaft speed rises which in turn creates more impellor speed=boost....

yes but you still get some boost from idle, and these things can be overcome cheaply and easily (cheaper than reducing turbo lag for sure) , with bigger/smaller pullys etc

you shouldnt get boost at idle from a centrifugal blower, unless you were only going to rev it to 2 grand, you will have boost control problems with too small a pulley. and might be a little more expensive, but you can decrease the amount of lag with a turbo to a certain extent by changing your turbo specs, you could also reduce the i.d of your manifold runners to increase gas velocity.....so many variables in this....
