Hi all,
Just had my 120,000 service.
Last one before the extended warranty runs out (Damn you AON)
They found that my engine mounts are sagging and need replacing ~5mm drop supposedly. Sort of expecting I suppose given the FE@ and the firmer ride. Two questions,
1.What else should I make sure they check as part of the repair. What else could they **** up?
2. Whenwe tried toget the Warranty reapir approved AON said it won't cover it as it is fair wear and tear! What do you guys think. I have had this 9C1 since new.
AOn have been shifty lately saying my latest link rod and fron sway bushes were fair wear and tear-even after two replacments in the past and nut putting VX components inwhich were stronger. Shows you you need to watch extended warranties, though it has paid for itself in the past so far.

My VT S1 has sagging mounts aswell. Holden quoted me $450 for supply and fit - bit pricey IMO. Picked up a pair of mounts at Repco for $96 , and mechanic mate will be fitting them for $150.
One of my engine mounts have sagged, and the sump is hitting the chassis under it... which has become a RWC prob. Picked up a set for $40 each, too easyThere are no mods on my car so i guess its fair wear and tear for me... after 180k km;s tho :P
I got quoted about $360, allowing for Morning Tea for the Mechs. $95 for each mount- though should get them at trade.
Apparently most of the work is the centre one which is under the aircon.

mmmm this thread just reminded me my drivers side on needs replacing... pedlers told me some 3 months back when it went in for a suspension check it was badly sagging...
more money to spend on the car![]()
where did ya gte for 40 bux cause mines broken and needs replacingOriginally Posted by don0xer
I had vibrations through steering wheel & drivers seat & always thought it was an idling problem but found after looking at the mounts from underneath car they were sagged so much the pin that goes through the mount were actually sitting on the chassis,
after changing the mounts now it is idles sooo quiet, & no vibrations whatsoever, best $110 I ever spent.![]()
Btw, Repco has them for $55 each aftermarket.
Jst a quick question...
How often should getting this sorta thing be done??
Like i got my car lowered heaps so there is more strain on the mounts...
Just look at mounts from under car & if the pins that go through mount are close to or sitting on chassis they need replacing,
there should be at least 15mm clearance between pin and chassis.
Also sump should be higher than K frame by 10mm or so, mine was below k frame by 5mm.
I just did mine, they were badly sagging, 135000km and fe2 springs. Paid $86 for a pair of aftermarket ones, and installed myself, bugger of a job though.
Just had my engine mounts redone. They were cracked and the engine was sitting on the plate underneath.
Cost me $40 for each mount, and a mate fitted them @ $30 an hour, took him 3 hours to do![]()
what they look like? could someone take a photo of them?
Can bad engine mount cause rough idle??
This is side by side photo
Good stuff - you can see where the rubber has been compressed
Holden Dealer replaced my 4mm sagging 2 fluid engine mounts today and changed the Automatic Transmission oil. Now the car goes better than a mercedes Benz honestly, no more scrapping noises when cold. I think it was the Engine Mount making the car sound like this I could feel the vibration down on the drivers side floor. $478.
Mine sagged, sump resting on cross member, lots vibration. Jacked up engine and slipped in a 6mm packer under each mount, all fixed, ...cheaply!
Tight wad Pablo
LOL
Okay so wheres the best place to buy a new pair of these lads?
i can't find anything better than that Repco price, hopefully they still sell them there.
i replaced my mounts 6 months ago however it was about 6 months to late as the sump had been rubbing thorugh on the k-frame. there is now a 5mm deep scrape in my sump so if u have bad mounts replace them asap.! ...does anyone know if you need to rreplace the sump with a chunk outa it for a RWC?
shit mate now i'm worried...
Don't forget that the factory V6 engine mounts are hydraulic. They are filled with a damping oil and after 200,000 k's or so the rubber cracks and lets out the oil. This oil filled factory mount is very effective at damping the V6 vibrations, particularly at idle. But yes, they are about $130 each. Your cheaper aftermarket mounts are solid rubber and whilst certainly are better than a collapsed mount, they are not as good as a factory mount. The factory mounts will typically give a creamy smooth idle with basically no vibration detected inside the car. Whereas the solid rubber one's you still get a little vibration coming through to the body. It's up to each of you which way you go, just make an informed decision not soldey based of price.
