Default VX has VY sway bar links?

In process of fixing bits and pieces on my VX S II.

one of the sway bar links has crapped itself and have had issues getting replacement parts..

I have been told my VX is fitted with VY sway bar links which have the ball joint on one end.

My question is - did holden fit last series VX's with VY sway bar links?

If not - would it have an impact on my alignment (which at this stage screws up every 2 months or so?)

    cheers

The sway bar links were revised for the VX which have the ball joint.

These sway bar links are the same for the VX and VY models.

    there the ones..

    and double the price too!.

jus goes to show people at places like repco and autoone have no idea wat they're talking about.

so $75 for a nolathane brand kit is decent im guessing?

The genuine sway bar link kits will cost you between $80 - $90 from your Holden spare parts dealer.

So $75 for the nolathane brand kit is good.

I went through about 3 sets of the standard ones

    go the nolthane ones

my mate at pedders replaced the standard ones on a customers car, dropped it off the hoist n the ball joint thingo went pop! time for a new one

    just a shitty holden design

got to a point with the last ones i had on my old vx they had stretched and you couldnt tighten the nut on the top any tighter than finger tight because they had stretched

I chucked new bushes in mine yesterday, and could'nt help but notice the serious angles these things travel through.

One my links is actually bent. So I'll have to keep an eye on it.

I can't understand why Holden decided to use such a long link, and attatch it half-way up the strut. A slight re-think, and they could've used a shorter link, and mounted it to the lower control arm.

Sorry to reopen an old thread...

I'm in the process of getting the kit for my own VX Series II. Holden quoted $45 each (one needed for each side, so $90 total).

Is the nolathane one a "complete" kit, or do I need to buy two of them?

And where's the best place to get them cheaply?

Nolathane is a complete kit left and right.

$90 odd rrp or around $73 with trade discount from Repco

    What about this?

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/COMMODORE-HEA...QQcmdZViewItem

Surely $35 for a Nolathane link pin kit is a bit cheap? I was assuming it was one per side for that price...

If your VX II is the same as mine - that's the incorrect kit.

You'd have to double check yourself by peering underneath your car but basically the difference is the VX/VY kits have a ball joint on one end.

That ebay link you supplied looks like the VT model.

The jump in price from VT to VX/VY kits is nearly double

Awesome thanks - I'd most likely have the same setup as you. Unfortunately I haven't really got a clue as to any of this stuff, so even if I was to look under my car, I wouldn't know what I'm looking for.

I'm guessing it's better to get the $90 nothalane kit from repco, than going to holden and paying the same amount for their kit? (they charge $45 for each side - they come separately)

    Yeh for sure..

but keep in mind Repco, Auto-one etc will have the part you want listed as a VY component.

Just inspect it and if its got a ball joint at one end its what you want

Bah! Repco sell the nothalane kits for $99, or the nolathane rubbers only for $15 (I'm assuming it's better to get the full kit though?)

Anyone know where I can get the kit cheaper?

    Dammit

I ended up ringing around and called Autobarn in Sunbury, and they claim to have them for $79, so I'll check it out tomorrow.

I'll be in Sunbury anyway, as there's a guy there who sells "ex-GMH" suspension for good prices there - I'm picking up a set of front struts from him.

(the ones that are supposedly pulled off Commodores when they get delivered to HSV)
