    Default RIP Shift

Has anyone got a rip shifter in theyre vx? i got a vu and am considering getting one. do i also need to get a short shifter with the rip shifter because from what i understand the rip shifter only makes it change gears easier, and to get it to have less throw/travel you need a short shifter?

    cheers mitch

just hold the shifter further down....ends up working the same.. as for the rip shifter yes they are good my mates got one in his vx ss and it makes punching gears soooo easy never misses 3rd any more

haha... all it does really is drag the shifter across when changing from second to third faster so it doesnt go back into 1st. its a bit expensive tho i think its about $400 just for the bottom shifter without the shorter gear stick

yeah go the rip shifter.....its the best thing you will buy.

i have the HSV factory short shifter in the R8 and took another R8 for a spin with a RIP shifter....its absolutley insane...

its makes it feel like a race gearbox....gears literally just click in..the throw is slightly shorter and when going from the 1st and second gates to the reverse on the 6speed box its really short too.

and the spring loaded 2nd to 3rd shift means always hit 3rd and not 1st so your engine is relatively safe from a downshift overrev...although still possible to force into first.....

one is on the cards for me but the gold coast trip in jan has delayed it due to some lacking of funds
$600 supply and install for me. street version.

two different types street and race version.
    go the street....
what you will find be it the street or race is a slight vibration on the gearstick due to all the holden/hsv linkages being replaced by a direct link....

not sure about whether or not it shortens your stick though....
the ls1.com.au forum has heaps of info about it and has heaps of ppls comments

it is worth its money in gold.
had a mate who had a VX SS...had it for a week and was doing some spirited driving....
off the line nails it hits redline in first, puts it in second, redlines second and grabs third pulls clutch out and hits the excellerator to find out its back in 1st needle goes well beyond the 7000rpm redline, he puts clutch back in and slows to the lights to find it running rough....
anyway...after taking the heads off finds one bent pushrod, valve springs weak as, 7 out of 8 inlet valves touch the top of the piston and low compression on 3 cylinders.....
$2500 later the car runs like new....one rip shifter at $600 is one quarter of the price
