Around $300-400 for a new genuine compressor, fitting i would say anywhere from $300-$600 depending on where you go.

A genuine AC compressor will set you back around the $800 mark. You can pick up non gen for half that, and depending where you pick up a non gen, they will more than likely be made by the same manufacturer.
Getting it fitted will probably set you back an hours labour, plus gas about $60,and you should also replace the receiver dryer $20

We use bursons for our compressors for both trucks and cars, they seem to be pretty good(touches wood!)
We have an auto electrician we use to do all of our fitting work and gassing, i think he's about $60 an hour plus your gas which is around the $90 depending on the application.

I've just had my VT re-gassed and it cost me nearly NZ$200 including labour. So that is arround AUS $150-$180 depending on the exchange rate

That is pure bull sh1t, i got a new compressor from holden for $425 and that is for an LS1, if you are paying $800 then you are getting ripped.

About a year ago my compressor stuffed up so I rang my local Holden dealer to get a price and was quoted just under $1000 ( can't remember the exact price ) so I rang another Holden dealer and was given a similar price. I bought one secondhand and it's fine. Today, just out of curiosity, I rang the same local Holden dealer and was quoted $603 for a V6 compressor. A big difference.
