    Default Indicator/hazard lights

I have indicator & hazard light troubles (VT2 Berlina), that can apparently be a problem in the VT's. The sometimes stay on, blink irreguarly and so on. I was told it is the hazard switch itself, and has to be replaced. If so, is it done with much difficulty. I was also thinking of a new flasher can.

    Cheers.

im guessing to get to it would be simalar to a vx and remove dash.... to get to button,a nd the flasher relay sould be under steering colum with them all there or might be in the bonnet

Yeah I had the indicators and hazards stop working completely several months or so ago for no obvious reason On the first time this happened I tried the usual (in frustration) flicking the indicator stalk left & right rapidly all to no avail...what made them start working was a couple of firm quick pushes of the hazard button and it was fine. It wasn't a globe problem because when the alarm was armed ALL the indicators worked fine.

The second time this happened few months later...the rapid/firm push of the hazard button didnt seem to work so (in frustration again) I thumped the top of the dash right above the hazard switch and everything started to work fine again and hasnt played up since. I am guessing there is a bad connection or dry joint somewhere.

Just make sure you haven't got a wiring problem in your trailer plug...happened to me just a few days after I bought my VT 2nd hand. I am normally pretty good with electricals but forgot about the trailer plug, cost me $180 at the auto elec...ouch!

They started working properly a day after posting this. Don't know how or why, didn't fiddle with anything, and they're still as they should be. Don't know how long the luck will last though.

    Cheers.

Hate to drag up an old thread but may be related. I has a VS Statesman where right hand indicators blink faster than usual, checked all indicator lights outside and front indicator lamp not working, everything else on right had side working but blinking faster. Put on hazards and everything except the rhs front lamp works normally and at normal speed. So I thought - cool - found bulb had blown and replaced it. Still same problem, went and replaced flasher unit in the box under the steering wheel (nothing visually wrong with the old flasher unit), still same problem. Went hunting for loose wires under the right front bumper and nothing obviously loose.

So I had it go to the workshop anyway for something else, they found my replaced globe had blown after only a fortnight and they traced all wiring up to the dash (with a multimeter I assume) which was fine, so advised me to see auto electrician as they suspect something under the dash.

I never use it but I have a 7 pin trailer cable inside the boot. Been extremely humid and wet here but the really annoying thing is its the right hand front turn signal that people expect to see when I'm turning right at a roundabout!

Anyone else have advice or checks I can do before I donate hundreds of $$$ for an auto electrician to pull my dash apart?

I have that problem and think I might have to replace the indicator stalk. After a 4 hr trip in the car it was making me go nuts! All the globes work fine and I replaced the flasher relay.

Hi guys. I am having the same problem. Sometimes (and it seems to be only when its cold, and only for a few minutes maybe), my indicators stick. They dont flash, they just stay on, or they might start flashing but very very slow and irregular. When this happens, if I push the hazard switch, it does the same thing.

    Any ideas?

As said, it really only seems to happen when its cold, and usually only for 5-10 minutes, which it will start working after that. Could it be the flasher relay needs replacing or as said might their be a loose globe?

    Any thanks appreciated.

wow what a thread. same problem here. started to be just now and then now every COLD morning/day something when i put them on they will flash once, twice or three times then stop. a couple of weel before this i had put them on and they stayed on (indicator light on and not flashing) now most of the time they are not working as of 2 days ago. i was about to go and buy a new flasher can but after reading this thread im going to try playing with the hazard switch first and checking my trailer plug. ill even try the headlight thing LOL. my idicators also work normal when locking/unlocking the car.

i will report back with what my problem is/was once i find it.

well i tried everything above. playing with the headlight switch had the indicators flash once or twice, playing with the hazard switch also had them flash once or twice. however i noticed when i turned the hazards on they did not stay on. i had to hold the switch sorta half in for the hazards to work. i pulled the front off the hazard switch to find it was not operating correctly. my indicators are now working perfectly so i will go and buy myself a new hazard switch.

thank you all for the great thread. i highly suggest to people with the same problem to check the hazard switch. i was about to buy a new flasher can and if that didnt work a new indicator stalk so i would have wasted some money myself.
