    Default Ventilation selector kaput!

Hello commordorites, just joined this forum...
I have volunteered to have a look at a friends VX wagon, as they have 4 kids and subsequently are not too flush with money!
The ventilation control is stuck on demist, despite whichever way you turn the rotary control, which makes for a nice warm car in 40 degree Adelaide heat!
I presume it is the vacuum actuator which is responsible, had this same problem in an EB falcon once ? I have done a search, but cannot find much on it. Any suggestions? Quite enjoy taking things apart, as they long as they go back together again!
    Thanks if you can help.
    Cheers, Craig

First you will need to remove the dash surround to get at the offending switch.
Here is a link that describes how to remove the dash: dash removal
Once you have done that you should be able to figure out the rest.

    Craig,
How did ya go with the switch ?

I’ve had the same problem for about 12 months, when moving from ‘windscreen’ back to ‘face’ to the rotary switch gets stuck. For a while it would return however It's is now totally stuck.

I have pulled off the dash fasia and checked over all the vacuum lines, including under centre dash at the actuators and in engine bay and it all looks OK so I assume it’s a broken switch.

I can get one from my local holden dealer for $14.00 I hope to fit it up on the weekend.

    Cheers,
    Muz

    Default Mine is all fixed.

I replaced the vacuum valve ($14.00) behind the vent switch and all is working just fine.

I took a few pics along the way, might help someone out in the future.

    Cheers

How long does this job take for a handyman to do? Where is the best place to get the part (Holden Dealer or someone else)

Thanks in advance. Mine went recently and need it fixed before holiday trip north.

did this fix the prob? is it common for the switch to stuff up? I think mine is stuck between changing demist to face/leg somewhere....very little airflow on high, but no vacuum leak, thinking maybe switch...
