Hey my 170,000 service is about due in a few days or so, im looing at better oils atm, instead of wot i have been usein, does anyone know if this royal Purple is any good i know it cost $80 but is it worth it. My mate read there artical and said they seem to have done some test and it seems its very good.
Also does anyone know what Mechanis do if i was to take it to them to sevice or do they just replace oils an crap, or do they do the fuel air mix?
I havent taken this one to a mechanic yet only had it since 155,000 and did the 160k my self. if i do it myself can i take it to a mechanic an get them just to do the air fuel mix?
cheers

My car is on 135,000 k's and I use Pennzoil GT Street Machine 20W-50 if thats any help
short trips of long?
personally i rekon u should use either penrite hpr 10 or 15...wiked oil's!
the important thing wid older engines like urs unfortunately is is to get sumthing a bit thicker....hpr 10 is 10w-50 which will give u good protection at start up and at high temps....hpr 15 is a bit thicker 15w-60 and prolly more suited to ur car as it is just that bit thicker.
and hpr 15 is also semi synthetic which will help a bit too...and its only $33 so its not guna break the bank
hope that helps![]()

$24 u got ripped off...haha we have it on the shelf for $22

haha yeh servo's are the biggest rip for everything hey.....ive seen magnatec at a bp servo for over $40....lol wat a joke
yeh magnatec is a bit thin for older engines...being only 10w40 but if u are doin short trips then it should be fine....longer trips id prolly go a 10w or 20w 50 or 60...
cheers

im using Elf 10-50 full synthetic @ less then 150k.
my car runs beautiful, purrs and actually has increased engine lag in my opinion...
Penrite Is A Good Investment, Go The Hpr 15

I'd suggest, if you have been using a mineral based oil and switching to Semi or full synthetic, its better to do a flush out, where you put in a semi or full synthetic oil and use the car for a week and do an oil change. As the synthetic oil cleans the engine, there could be little particles running around the engine, which can do damage.
so using thicker oil in my old engine be more wise or should i just stick 2 the maganatec plus i dont warm up my car in the morning so thats basically y i got the magnatec in the first place cause apparently your car doesnt need warming up LOL but who knows how true that is

ah ok i understand now haha![]()
yeh well the thicker oil is guna give u that extra protection...the hpr 10 is the same as the magnatec wen cold but wen the engine warms up it just protecting it that bit more....for ur car i would use the hpr 10 if u are a person who just jumps in ur car and starts driving, coz its guna protect a bit more at start up and then at operating temp as well.
hope that helps mate
