Default High flow cats and extractors

I am thinking of gettin some extractors fitted to my V6. i'm gettin a set of pacemakers. Now what i wont to know is it worth putting new high flow cats in? its going to cost me just as much for the cats as the extractors, and some ppl tell me it not worth puttin new ones on a 6 cos the stock ones are ok.

    whats everyones opinion on cats?

Hi flow cats are not necessary on a stock engine. The standard cats flow enough. If you turbo or supercharge it then it would be ok but leave your standard ones there.

Problem is that the V6's need some backpressure and though the stock ones are a bit restrictive its not worth going hi flow cats unless you plan to go turbo or supercharged later on then

The only reason you were told that is because they wanted to sell you a hi flow cat. The extractors will give you the benefit, a hi flow cat will take it away.

    Yeah, what Not_An_Abba_Fan said...
I got headers, stock cat and then a 2.5 Catback behind that...
Cause really got a kick in the arse will all that...
Sure the cats might give u an extra 3kw but u will not feel that on the road.
UNless ur gonna charge, then cats are an idea

pacemakers seem to be the way to go, but a lot of the guys run hm headers.

Absolutely no difference on an ecotec. If it was a super 6 then it would make a slight difference.
A hiflow cat has a different ceramic substrate, the holes in it a slightly larger and the inlet and outlets flow smoother. There are also steel internal cats which all flow better than a ceramic hiflow.
Big hp engines should run hiflows, stock ones don't need them.

I got a set of Genies sitting in the shed, just haven't gotten around to fitting them yet. Would have preferred Pacemaker but at the price (Carton of Woodstock) I got them, I'm not complaining.

ive been tossing up the idea of exhaust and headers recently too. I had pacemakers with stock cat and 2.5" redback system with front muffler box only on my VL, and it sounded awesome. I was gona spend th e$ and get the HM headers aswell, but for those of you that have gone the headers with exhaust also, did u really notice any difference in power or anything, i know the note is important, but a mate of mine used to have a car exactly the same as mine engine wise, and he put on his catback exhaust first, but when he got headers later he sed he got no difference in power or noise, what's the story? Cos if i can get no difference in power or note by having headers as well, i dont see the point in spending the money.

Exhuast n headers give you a powerband from about 2500 up and some improvement takin off...
I was happy when i got my HM headers goin through a stock cat n then into a 2.5 redback catback with only the middle muffler

HM's are a bit dearer because they are stainless steel. Bit of a difference in power on a dyno, but unless you plane to drag it, there are no real differences between brands. Quality of build is a factor though. Which ever brand you get, make sure they have at least 2 years warranty, most have 3 now with stainless being between 5 and 10.

I run standard headers, standard cat and then my 2.5 system with lukey muffler. My mate has a VT with Pacies on it, my car actually pulls better than his, so why waste my money on extractors when I can put that into suspension and brakes and play in the twisties.
